Does the ECU limit the boost a bit in 1st and 2nd gear? Toyota use to do this on the old GT4s (st185 version limited boost my a few psi in 1st and 2nd, st205 model limited boost by 5 psi in 1st gear only).
The reason I ask is that to me 3rd gear feels just as quick as 2nd, and I find that 1st and 2nd should probably feel quicker than they do considering how well the car seems to pull in 3rd.

any ideas? or am I imagining it?
 
You're completely right. The S3 limits the power in 1st and 2nd (maybe also a little in 3rd?). But it's doing it in the first two gears for sure. This can be felt with the JB4 if you put in a non-additive map, this will make the boost even in all gears and make a noticeable difference in the lower gears (with more wear and tear on the components of course).
 
Ah thought so. Glad I'm not going mad. I assume this is one of the things a remap will do i.e. remove the lower gear limit. I guess this also explains the considerable improvement in 0-60 times after stage 1 / 2 remaps.
