Want to keep the OEM look, how much heavier are they than the Porsche calipers? What do they normally sell for? They don't seem to expensive compared to a scruffy pair calipers only for £300 plus postage.

Tuffty speaks the truth. R32 calipers are stupid heavy. Better off with some Leon Cupra R Brembo if you want an OEM upgrade.

okay thanks, would you be able to point me in the right direction for a kit as Badger 5 website doesn't have the brembo gt jnr which tbh seem a bit too much at £1200.

Now purchased the Brembo LCR kit, thanks for the advice Tuffty and Sootpig. The disks also look a LOT cheaper than the 334mm equivalent.

When you're lugging a few hundred kilos of haldex about, a couple kg's of brakes is gonna be the least of your worries! :tearsofjoy:

have gone and got the brembo now as it sounds like they have more stopping power anyway. Also the 323mm tarox disks are £270, the r32 334mm tarox disks were over £200 more!!! Plus blue brembos will be a little different!

Nice work, obviously Brembo's any day! . .

I just find it funny/ironic that Tufftys first comment was about they're weight... lol

Brakes are unsprung, which makes a massive difference over sprung weight....

They must be heavy though, massive steel calipers! The brembo LCRs must be aluminium if they're lighter than single piston stock calipers?

Came across your "Saudi" build thread last night, epic the amount of work and skill that has gone into that!

Why on earth are you considering tarox discs
Get the cheapest grooved discs you can on ebay
I paid 120 from memory
Spend money on better pads

Granted, didn't think about that... Although paired with the standard Ronal S3 rims at 25kg+ a corner, it's horses for courses!

Do cheap grooved ebay disks not just warp really easily? That why I was considering tarox.
23.2kg?!? That's nuts, can't believe how heavy they are. Love the look of them but think they might have to go!

I very much doubt the materials used in the tarox are going to be very different to the ones on ebay.
I have mtec discs no problem so far.
What's your usage.
All I'm saying is 270 quid is crazy
If your spending that go you may as well go all in and get 2 piece

Car will be driven fairly hard with the occasional track day, running about 260hp now but hopefully be 350-400 eventually so want to build to that.

I don't see any gains being had going for tarox disc.
350bhp with full interior you will want a 2 piece set up ideally if your driving hard at all.
Rbf660 fluid
Ds3000 pads
Braided hoses
And cooling ducts
This is my current set up though I'm in the process of adding the cooling.
Takes a lot slowing an s3 in standard trim

Okay, so are the brembo brakes not going to be big enough for what I want? Don't real want to strip my interior. When you say 2 piece do you mean 323mm 2 piece disks would be better?

It's not the biting power of the brembo's that's the issue, it's the ability of the disc to dissipate the heat... Generally speaking a bigger disc will get rid of heat quicker, which is what you need on track then you're doing hard braking manoeuvres over and over again.

It's taken @Prawn a long time, but even he's now decided he can't fit a good enough brake under 17" rims...

Badger sells 2 piece discs in 330mm size with adaptors to suit.
It really depends on how you drive mate.
I'd say Lcr calipers with ds3000 pads will suit you for sure
Just saying I'd get the best I could to go with it if your at 350 to 400 bhp.
Having said that your at 260.
Go for grooved discs upto you which ones
Ds3000 pads not ds2500!!!
Rbf660 fluid
and add cooling
The limiting factor will be your tyres.
I have this and can lock my brakes easy on road tyres

Was about to mention prawn
He runs slicks
370 bhp
He's Uber Uber fast and he was on this set up for ages!
If it's not good enough for you your using them too much which will make you slower but the brakes will be getting hotter. Learning to drive properly and going faster can save brakes.
Ironic huh

Okay, thanks for all the info! Grooved disks it is then (not tarox), will probably need to change them by the time I get the thing at 350hp anyway.

Has he had any problems cracking disks because I will be avoiding the drilled ones anyway?

Be has cracked his grooved discs recently funny enough and is now using j hooks.
The grooves going to the ends were acting as a weak point.
Go for what discs you want.
If the cheap ones warp the chances are the tarox would have is all I'm saying.
Optimum is 2 piece with bobbins.
Don't use normal 2 piece

Going to go for these disks if they are the right idea? Not ideal that they're drilled but these with DS3000 pads, braided lines and high temp fluid... Seat rear disks are 256mm vented same as S3 anyway.

So I have now ordered Mtech slotted discs front and rear, HEL braided hoses front and rear, Ferodo DS2500 pads for the front and rear to go with the LCR calipers/carriers and RBF660 brake fluid. Will still need to get the seals/pistons/sliders and bleed nipples for when I refurbish them front and rear in blue.
Thanks for the advice guys!
