I know this has been covered a few times before, but I think I've found the problem.

Basically, after driving for a bit I get a fuel smell through my vents into the cabin. Did a bit of research and heard the S3's have issues with the carbon cannister. Popped the bonnet had a good sniff around and there was a strong smell around the cannister. Sound.

After examining all the hoses (none were split) I've ripped the cannister out and found that the bottom of the cannister looks like it should have a hose on it. It didn't when I pulled it out.

Is this the fuel tank vent? What should be on here?

Cheers.

Hey Josh,
I also had the same problem not long ago, although I did have a split pipe going from the canister to somewhere near the fuel lines (by the brake fluid reservoir). I think in your case, you're missing the pipe that feeds from the bottom of the canister to a hole in the wheel arch that helps vent the fumes. If you check F/O/S wheel arch there should be a hole which is where the pipe should lead to (correct me if i'm wrong).

Thanks for the reply dude.

I couldn't find anything on the net, so I just assumed it was the vent and yes, I saw the hole & put 2 & 2 together. Luckily, with more project cars than I can cope with I found the perfect piece of pipe lieing around in the garage. Jubilee clipped it on and pieced the thing back together. Not had chance to test it out yet as Sunday dinner was ready. Hopefully it cures it!
