With the sun out, and the uni year and my 100 miles daily commute nearly over. I'm craving an S3 for summer.

Problem is finding insurance on an 8P in near impossible! I can get insured relatively easily on a Cupra R but for some reason most companies will not touch me on an S3.

Any young drivers here got any experience of owning an S3?

had my S3 09 at 20 years old about £1400 with 2 years NCB I think.

22 now. new s3. £914.

expensive business!!

Worth squeeze though. especially if you start modding. Go DSG if I were you. My first S3 was manual. new one is DSG. it's far better.

I think you'll struggle, and if you do find anyone to insure you it'll be horrendously expensive. Not sure NCB will make much of a difference, they usually just see your age and run away screaming. I think you'd be best trying getting some conditions (like 6000k miles a year, max voluntary excess, pay lump sum etc) to help, maybe there's some sort of site sponsor that can offer a discount?

Admiral. took a bit of time getting it as low as I could go. playing companies against each other etc. worked out well in the end. Just be extra friendly on the phone :)

My insurance history with 8p's has been:

58 plate A3 170 TDI 6k on clock. £2,050 I was 18. 1 year no claim.

09 plate S3 14k on clock, £1,400 ish 2 years no claim.

61 plate S3 69 miles on clock, £914 3 years no claim.

All admiral.

Admiral is who I tried, the won't even quote me on an S3 :sadlike: And they want about £3k on a Mk2 Cupra. That with me as a main driver and my dad and aunty as named, both over 50 with clean licences.

Do you reckon i'll have more luck phoning them?

As problems go that isn't a bad one to have to deal with! When I was 19 I was running around in a 1.3 Toyota Corolla with 170k on the clock, not that I'm bitter or anything :whistle2:My only tip would be to add somebody older as a named driver on your policy since in my experience that always knocked a chunk off the premium (no idea why!).I think whatever you do you are gonna get stung with an insane premium to start with, your only chance is to avoid wrapping it round a tree and try to build up some no claims discount!

Funnily enough when I was just about to renew by 09 plate last month or 1 before. can't remember they quoted me something like £1390 or something.

I phoned them up saying, probably going to change my car. gave them details of new S3. essentially same car right??? they said its going to be less?

So my new S3. it's a black edition. spec is better. costs 32k when the old was worth 20k ish, costs less to insure than my 3 year old 09 plate S3.

crackers. he said less DSG 's have been stolen or written off or something. still crackers in my book.

I also think your address and the local crime rate really affects the price too. I live in the countryside. think the only crimes committed around where I live is me...31mph in a 30 zone. ;)

When I was 19 I had a bus pass.

...best thing to do is limit your mileage to 5k/6k a year add a few named drivers, older females ones are better for lowering the quote and maybe opt for a 10 month policy to save a few bob and build no claims bonus quicker.

If you won't pay the insurance, you don't deserve to own the car.

When I was 17 I was paying over £120 a week to drive a BMW 850IL V12, did I complain? No...Because I was pimp as ****.

Who said i'm complaining about it? I'm simply trying to get insured for a reasonable price. Is that too much to ask.

If you don't ask you dont get. too right.

Just go on all comparison websites. get best quote. haggle them down to a quote lower than a previous quote on a different comparison website. ring the next one up and say beat this. then just keep going until you reach a wall.

all the best mate.

Black Editions seem to be classed as a different car and have less crash statistics against them therefore making them cheaper.

My old man's 140 S-tronic S-Line cost me £700 to insure at 20 but my 170 S-tronic Black Edition only cost £400ish......

trouble is a black edition will set you back a bit more in the first place....so it's catch 22 really. pay more to begin with then pay less. or pay less then pay more.... hmmmmmmm

anything is possible with enough wonga.

i just got a quote on confused, but put my details as your (19, 2years license and NCB) on a 12grand 2007 S3 and it came back £6325.77 fully comp with an excess of £1600

sometimes you gotta draw the line and think, is it really worth all that money just to be legaly covered to drive this?

Ive never found insurance to be too much of a problem.

Im 22 with 4 years NCD, 6 points and paying £600 on my 2.0TFSI, an S3 was quoted at £850.

Adding my Mum and Sister as named drivers dropped it by half ;)

Simple... Move!

Surrey is a high crime / risk area. If you look at the other people who have replied to this thread and got insurance they live in Glasgow and Worcestershire! I have never had much trouble with insurance either when I was in my 20's but I live near Bath in Somerset so again not a high crime area.

It's not the car, it's more where you live!

To every single person that disliked my post, haha you all suck.

My point stands, if you cannot afford the insurance you cannot afford the car. Sell up and buy a Vauxhall Corsa if you want to save money, owning an Audi isn't cheap.

Insurance is calculated on risks, if you are a high risk your insurance will be higher. Simples, quit moaning about it and crack on with it.

If you say so Jase, just seems stupid. If you can afford an 8P S3 at the age of 19 then insurance shouldn't be a problem. And shouldn't need it's own thread to tell everybody how upset you are about the costs.

It's 19 year olds who go out and buy fast cars and smash them up that make my insurance so high, hence the grumpyness.

I'm out of this thread now, the 8P section and I clearly have different views.

I would like to think that the forum would help members save lining the pockets of insurance companies whether they are loaded or not.

PS When I was 19 a bus pass was all I could afford but such is life.

Residual on a Black Edition was slightly more so it evens its self out.

What is your job title?

PCP = not shelling out all the money upfront on a depreciating asset. I find that more mental than financing a car but each to their own.

Owning a brand new Black Edition hactually worked out a better deal for my than running a Corsa.

Quite, seems madness to me. It's just another way of leasing the car but without the leasing benefits, it isn't even the drivers until the balloon is payed off.

PCP is about the same as just renting a car, except your usually liable for most of the running and maintenance costs.

I just paid cash for mine, no repayments to worry about.

My renewal is up next month for my s3 next month, I'm 21 and have 2ncb and it's coming through at 830 with elephant which isn't bad, when I had my old a3 2.0T s line when I was 19 no Ncb it was 2400 but was getting quotes for s3's for around 2800 with admiral.

Jeez, how he world changes. I didn't have my own car at 19, ended up seeing an older girl at Uni who had a car as I hadn't been able to save up for one by then.

Every time I turn on the news it says how new drivers can't afford insurance, but every time I speak to someone under 25 they have an half decent Audi, Beemer, Mini or Focus RS!

First decent car I got was at 30 (when I left higher education I got turfed out of home) so never had a chance to get any money together before getting my own place.

Your lack of knowledge on PCP is hilarious. You have clearly had some ****e salesmen who haven't explained the concept at all.

Guess what I do for a living?
