I have a 7 year old S1, which I bought 3 years ago with 18,000 miles on the clock. I've now done 50,000 and recently I heard a noise that I thought was wheel bearings. On being checked, I was told there was swarf in the gearbox and pieces of metal in the transfer box. This seems incredible for such a low mileage car. My previous car was an S3, which i'd driven 150,000 with no gearbox issues at all. I've got a specialist looking at the gearbox - but getting a transfer box may be a problem if needed.
Has anyone else had this sort of problem? and have any of you gone down the legal route?
