In my reading about gearbox problems :( I have seen many references to an adaption process whereby the TCU learns shift points according to your driving style. Does anyone know anything about this? If I could do something to change the shift points higher I think I would.

There's an adaption process when you first code a unit into the car, makes it learn the right bite points, but it's as straight forward (ish) as going through gears at certain speeds whilst between a set temp range.
The mech unit doesn't then learn as such to your driving style, much to what we've been told, it adapts to how the box wear and tear is and how the car is being driven to limit damage and compensate accordingly to try to make it seemless.
