Noticed rust on the very edge of the boot. It was bubbling. Wasn’t happy to see it to say the least. You just don’t notice it as it’s on the very edge. Audi do a 12 year warranty on paint. Anyone seen the same? It’s not touching as I don’t see any marks when closed. I would say the rust is about 30cm in length, give or take. Looks like it rubs just where there catch is but not on the edge, more inside if you know what I mean.

it is 12 years, but covers rust from inside out, otherwise just 3 years.. Yours looks like surface rust from damaged paintwork to me. ?

Have you had it from new to rule out any previous repairs? The liner on image 1+2 does look a bit wonky like its been off before from the image...

Had similar on a my R32 mk4 and they did a full boot respray under warranty. Good as new- car was six years old.

@Jsmills just the angle of taking the photo again. When I saw that I just touched it in. Still bubbling through. Got it a year old. Had a engineer look at the car before we got it for damage so....

Just been given authorisation under the anti perforation warranty. They will repair this issue on the boot lids lip. Audi said they will push for a new boot lid if things are bad under the paint.

Well done good result, you must be getting rather tired of the, unusual, issues you are experiencing by now..

Been annoying to be honest but the driving experience has been good. First the gearbox, then the camera and now this. All warranty claims have been approved which is great. No battles and my local Audi have been good to me even though I never got it from them.

Car is now with the Audi approved repairer. The Mrs wanted a Automatic so they only had SEAT Leon’s available. Audi did mention we may not get a like for like courtesy car. It’s a 1.9 tdi. Now we are in a decent car everything else lower down just feels rubbish. So impressed by what Audi can get from the 2.0 tdi engine in 190ps guise.

Coming back to my old post. The initial warranty claim was successful so hoping this won’t be a pain. I have rust on my boot again and the bump stop. Different places from the initial claim but on both sides of the boot. Please others check so you can get it repaired under warranty. I will be contacting Audi again.

That looks terrible!
Just checked mine (2019) and no rust at all in these areas as expected, but not looked before.
Hope they fix it finally for you this time. I would be asking for a new boot lid tbh, as they have already had one go at it.

Yeah it’s very frustrating given the boot was sprayed already. I’ve always found it very odd to close too. You really have to give it some to close. Spring loaded opening mechanism. The boot lines up correctly don’t get me wrong. I wonder what the rust looks like under the bump stop.
