RS3 Exhaust 'stuff'

Did I read somewhere that the 8V OPF delete did not work on the 8Y ? and that Billymc car was ok at first and then a couple of hundered miles later 'on' pops the engine light? modrn ecu's are getting clever'r and more sophisticated propbably even more so with VW group 'Diesel gate' stuff as well.

A friends A4 2.0TDI threw a hissy fit over the ad blue, turned out (I think) he had over filled the tank by not using the Audi filler neck and although all the temperatures looked ok within the ecu the radar (or untrasonic?) level gauge (yes that exact!) within the tank could not detect the level falling he got a warning basically ''Take me to a dealer within 150 miles or i'm stopping''
The engine light was always on but the car went into limp mode after 1000 miles roughly.

For all the modders we also have this "you can't mod your car" law coming soon ...

Ah yes the future, from the 'lets suck the life out of anything anyone finds enjoyable' brigade, Locals by me objecting to a farmer who wants to extend his Quad bike and Motocross track, they’ve won, application rejected by the Council, even though he has Quad bike days for under privileged and handicapped kids, throw in 'Safety' and 'Environmental' concerns into anything and your going to lose these days:(

Most would cut the pipes I bet (like a golf R res delete mod) That way it’s at least reversible without having to take half the car apart, and not every garage is capable of carden shaft removal without knackering the centre bearing.

Plus then it would need all re-instating for the next owner, because come MOT time it’ll be a fail, and they’ll have a big bill to rectify it back to a legal standard.

Is a res delete a MOT fail ? i'am considering one

JF say no to OPF modules too…………

So until someone opens up flashing the ECU then we are stuck with a 5 pot hoover

^ The aftershock of Dieselgate no doubt, the harder they make stuff like this to delete or work around, the more robust any court case would be against them that emission stuff was too easy to cheat :(

Yup…….

I’m sure it’ll be a full blown map that will be the only way.

Was chatting to a Dyno spectrum guy and he knows there’s a couple people close to being able to flash the 8Y ECU. He’s just getting the handshake and flashing routines sorted.

Would you consider Re mapping so soon ?

I totally get that my re mapping days are over also

One thing I learnt from moving the 8V on, it’s a lot harder to get a buyer for a modded car…

Even one that’s cherished and well looked after. Lol.

I had the same issue years back with an Evo 6 TME with 600 + bhp it was a nightmare to sell so decided to never modify again and lost a fortune in the process . In hindsight I should of kept it with todays values .

Yep, hindsight can also be very annoying, I passed all these on ''back in the day''
Ford Escort Mexico, RS2000 (x2) Series 1 E Type Jaguar, 2 x 993, 1 x 964, 1 x SC and a 2.4S 911 Porsche, plus *** a BMW 3.0CSL

Chuck one of these at it when/if they become available

My lads Mk Golf with RS3 engine runs one, great fun messing with the mapping and you can take all the cats and OPF's off, takes a bit of fiddling with (mapping) to make it run as nice as OEM but do-able :)

You have control over everything from fan temps cut in and duty (speed) to RBW, camshaft advance/****** timing, ignition + injection timing for both direct and port injectors, boost pressure, fuel pressure, EGT (too high) response, in fact everything

I won’t be voiding warranty just to get sound.

Anyone seen this? Sounds amazing and from my understanding fully legal too for the UK.

Still sounds like a hoover from the inside but sounds decent from the outside.

Worth voiding the warranty?
Not sure.

As far as I'm aware it would only void warranty for the exhaust section. Think it's worth it for it sounding like that, the stock 8Y sounds absolutely dreadful.

It’s the OPF’s that are the issue.

Doesn't the car in the video still have the opf installed?

You’ll never get the full proper sound with the OPF’s in place……

Best you can do is keep the valves open on the new one, which would involve delete plugs (you’ll get errors in the ECU) or use a valve controller like ASR / CETE.

I really dont understand why Audi decided to 'control' the exhaust valves being as it's pretty quiet even with the valves open

I think it’s driven by EU noise regs rather Audi making the call themselves

Mk8 Golf R is supplied with 'Factory' pops and bangs though ?

If the car sounded like it does in Park/Neutral in any of the RS or Dynamic modes that would be a step in the right direction,

I (and the Dog) used to be able to hear Wifey coming home in our Golf whn she was about 400 metres away, now the first thing we hear is the gravel/stones in the drive way

It’s to do with the valves opening and closing at certain points I think, rather than limiting overrun. Etc

Seems like 3.5 inch and a straight through section is the only way to get some noise out of the 8Y. This sounds decent, hardly like the 8v though.

I think I’ll probably end up going for a custom system looking at the price of this and the BTM one.
