As title says, I bought my engine second hand all built up but the studs for the rocker cover were removed and different style bolts used, cut a very long story short now, I need to replace the gasket to stop a oil leak around cam belt area by looks of it, I would like to reinstate the studs but they need to be helicoiled, anyone done them ? Is it possible?

Can you not just remove that threaded pins and replace with OEM? I fairly recently replaced the valve cover gasket, broke a few studs, removed and replaced fairly easily

I think I may even have a small bag I bought via seat dealer you are welcome to have FOC

FYI .... and if I recall, the 3 threaded pins along the centre of the cover are of different length to the 6 around the outside

I have done this loads... even done the cam caps on my head...

M6x1 helicoil kit is your friend

Cheers for your reply guys, I got the parts together to do the job and then thought twice about it so booked it into a local Audi Independent specialist and they are going to do the job for me using time sert, booked in for four hours but said might take a bit longer. ‍♂️♂️

I used those to repair a stripped thread on my 8P fuel pump. They were excellent and way better than the helicoil I tried first....not cheap though for the kit!

Sounds like an expensive way to fix a couple of iffy M6 threads!
