Need some clarification on these tyres.

My daughters FL S3 was booked into our local Audi dealer today to get two tyres replaced.
Her S3 is presently running on AO1 Pirelli P Zero’s 235/35/19.
We asked for like for like Tyres when ordering them as she has had no issues and the tread wear has been excellent.

However on collecting her car this evening they have fitted the correct tyres but they are the RO2 type?

Have spoken to dealer and he said they ordered & fitted AO1’s, he has obviously not checked the car then.

Can she run with the RO2’s on the rear along with AO1’s on the front?
What is the difference between RO2’s & AO1’s.
Both front & rear tyres are the same size, it’s just the RO2 v AO1

I don’t know the answer, my dealer has no idea what’s happening or how it happened.

Any advice appreciated.

R02 is a newer version of the same tyre . Tread pattern and size is identical , sidewall protection on the Ro2 is more pronounced . Most people think the RO2 looks better . I’m running ro1 rear Ro2 front , no issues .

Daughters car has RO2’s on rear, AO1’s on front due to dealer error.
She ordered AO1’s but they fitted RO2’s.

Updated version of a similar tyre . Fitted as a pair on the same axle in my opinion you will have no issues .

I’ve been told (wives tale/ myth?) that you have to run identical tyres on the same axle but can be different on a separate axle, for example two identical Pirelli’s on the front axle and two identical continentals on the rear axle.

Correct . Clearly if front and back were significantly different , which in this case they are not , u may have issues .

RO1 is the older spec of the current RO2. RO2 has bigger rim protector and I think uses latest Pirelli PZero Z4 compound.

AO is a different Audi spec altogether but mainly used on the non RS cars. Doesn’t have as big a rim protector as the RO1/2 specs.

I was told the A0 type tyres are for the non quattro cars. and the R0 type are quattro. As above R01 is just the older version of the R02 with a lesser rim protector.

The A0 tyres shouldn't be on S or RS cars, however, I know a lot that are and they don't seem to have any issues...

I have A0 on my R01 tyres. I’m sure A0 is for Audi and M0 for Mercedes, maclaren

I had the FL S3 before the RS and it had A01 on the car, my daughter also has a FL S3 just now and that has got the A01’s on all four corners.

I have a feeling neither Audi or the dealers have a clue about any of the cars produced or sold.

The daughters FL S3 has never had any issues with the A01’s, although I doubt she has ever taken it to the limit where traction was an issue.

I just wish that Audi and the dealers were a bit more savvy on the technical side. But in reality they only want your money, and don’t really care about the customer. We dread it when the car has to go in for any issues, as usually they never find it, or find it but cannot fix it.

They don't mate, that is the problem! and another reason I take mine to an independent specialist for anything and everything rather than my local Audi stealer!!

I wouldn't expect many issues with daily driving, it's just the car has been designed and developed to work on the reinforced tyres, which would be more likely noticed closer to the limits.
