Thinking of getting a camera fitted as the parking sensors are pretty crap at missing small posts etc. How does anyone rate the camera's, do they have a wide angle of view?

Really, the sensors are usually very good tbh mate, never hit a post or wall with mine.

They're fairly wide tbh.

Dont have one but they are awesome, trying to get a quote for one.

Genuine cameras needed I assume guys?

I can only echo those comments. I think the sensors are really good especially having added the display via VCDS.

I nearly hit a post last weekend at a mate's house. He was surprised as his Merc sensors pick it up. :(

My first post on here, so I'm uncertain as to the T's&C's in regards to sharing links to goods etc.

I fitted one of these to my Land Rover Disco 3, with an aftermarket camera unit that fitted into one of the number plate lamps. Trigger comes off of the reverse light wire, otherwise its pretty easy to install and set up, but.....

Not being able to see in behind the head unit and to see what the wiring options are, I'm still uncertain as to whether one of these units would circumvent the genuine Audi route.

On the Land Rover, we pulled the fibre optic out of the Nav DVD player and it went into the box. The box then wired back to the Nav DVD and linked into the LCD screen.

When you select reverse, the Nav screen will automatically display the rear picture.

So, can anyone say with certainty if one of these units would wire into what is behind the head unit of a B8.5?

I'd like a camera as well as I find the sensors make a continuous beep as though I'm about to hit something and I'm still a foot away

I got a quote fitted was about 800 nicker lol (not here sorry)

If you go for one of the GVIF boxes, third party camera, you should be able to do a DIY install for about £300 max.
One of the interphase boxes above and camera would be as little as £200 to install ourselves. I'm just no up on what plug connecters are used in the Audi brand.

Chaps,

Just came across this thread, I have contacted a seller who is based in China that is selling a 3rd party rear/front view camera kit on Audizine forum and he is interested in giving us a discount if we can do a group purchase of around 10-15 kits.

He is currently retailing it on Audizine for 246 USD (roughly just under £170) and this kit includes the following:

Interface with PAS (Parking asistance system): USD 153/set
Rear handle camera: USD 42/set
Shipping cost by DHL: USD 39
Paypal commission: USD 12

This can be installed on both Sat-nav and non-Sat nav cars and the camera goes on the boot lid opener unlike many others that go with the number plate light.

I have seen the quality of these cameras and they seem to be quite good based on people that have retrofitted it and it seems like the closest to an OEM, see the link below for the videos and the chat going on there:

So if anyone is interested, I can probably get him to give us a group discount and sell this to us for around or just under 200 USD (just under £140) or maybe even cheaper. Once I get mine installed and working, I can probably do an install for others for an small cost.

If we can get atleast 10 peeps to sign up then I would speak to him, so please do reply to this thread and let me know.

I have the camera... it's lovely most of the time, though my Passat camera is better as the grid lines actually show you where you're going to go, as opposed to my S4 one which never seems to match up. It's more for getting nice and close when you need to.

Oh, and when it rains (like it does 50% in the UK) it's usually obscured.

However, the novelty factor is cool and if you're in to modding it's a good project.

Do you have a link to what we could buy if we couldn't get the numbers for a group buy?

I have a camera, had them on the last 4 cars, wouldn't be without one these days. Parking sensors are excellent, they've never missed picking up anything. The camera is really good, very detailed in my B8.5 RS4, much clearer than the wife's X5 which is now an older generation.

Grid lines work really well and you can swap the display from steering lines to parallel parking mode in an instant. I have no issues in the rain its mounted between the rear number plate lights so it stays dry, can get dirty in bad weather but I usually keep the car clan anyway. At night it works really well as the LED reversing lamps and number plate lamps on the 8.5 light the rear really well and the camera is pretty good at low light work anyway.

Mine is a 2015 car so they may have upgraded the item recently but I have to say is excellent. The new Q7 camera is even better quality!
