Guys, just wanted to double-check something.

Due to my car being smashed at the front, I asked the repair shop to install the RS4 trapezoid front grill instead of the standard S-Line one. They said that they couldn't do it because their Audi specialist says it uses different fixings. I am pretty sure this isn't true and the RS4 grill fits the S-Line bumper. Can someone confirm this before I buy one?

Yeah defo Nath - That guy who had the tidy Black 2.0T Avant with RS4's reps, lowered, etc - Sold it via Pistonheads - sorry can't remember his name (Had an RS6 previously). He had an RS4 grill on his :icon_thumright:

Found it - The thread was B7 Wagon with pics - Last post in Nov i think?

Right, I've finally retrofitted my RS4 grill. Turns out the car doesn't have the bolts fitted underneath, don't think it's a problem though.

Two things, 1) don't tell me to de-egg the indicators, I'm still undecided what I'm going to do with the lights. 2) Yes I know there is a gap between the bumper and the bonnet, I assume the repair shop didn't fiddle with the adjuster screws on the new bonnet. Just need to get an extension to my socket set to adjust them accordingly.

Are you ready? Here you go:

Looks sweet Nathan. Did you swap the surrounding trim ? As it looks like it has Chrome or is it just the sun ?

I thought the brushed alu would look too odd compared to the rest of the car. However, because it was alu it came away from the grille without and problems...putting the chrome trim onto the grille *was* a problem as a number of the tabs snapped. Not sure whether to keep hold of the alu trim just in case I go for a set of S4 mirrors.

I'm in the process of 'fitting' and RS6 grill to mine............so that it won't have the plate mount in the middle :icon_thumright:

Ah Rich, you always have to go one better :gun2:

lol - nah - it's been in the planning stage for weeks!!!!

It involved taking a spare original Sline grill and surround........removing all the grill gubbings, and replacing with the 'centre' of an RS6 grill (as in I had to remove it's surround and cut it down to fit)

Here's camera phone progress so far:

The biggest problem I've has was the cost of the RS6 grill...............coupled with the fact that this might not work!

How did you get on removing and reinstalling the plastic chrome trim? I found a lot of the tabs just snapped.

Where's the number plate going to go?! Looks nice.

Nath - Looks nice mate - Are you going to re-badge the S-Line on it?

Cheers.

I wasn't sure if I was missing something as the new grille has no place to fit a badge, just looked at my old grille and one of the sections seems to be different to support the badge. I'm not too bothered, I think it looks better without one and I'm certainly not sticking a "wannabe" RS4 badge on it :)

Here's a tip which has been mentioned by others....to reduce the gap left between front bumper and bonnet but the repair company, I endeavoured to use the adjustment bolts to improve it. Also bear in mind that the headlights were not flush with the bumper after the repair shop.

So, took my 3 hours repeatedly fiddling with the adjustment bolts and testing the bumper. Complete nightmare. Finally reduced the gap but the headlights are still not flush.

What a pain!

I've just just seen your car looks good. I've just sent you a PM.

Surely you should get the repair shop to sort it, I wouldn't have accepted it back from them in that state...

I didn't really notice until I fitted the grille and I feel more confident trying to fix it than them. I'm leaving well alone now.

I wouldn't mind swaping my grill for an RS4 one, it would have to be the black optics one though.......can the chrome/black rim around the grill be bought seperatly?

Yep. Bought my grille through pjmspeedy, grille comes with the brushed aluminium trim as standard but the black optics grille was around £10 extra and assume it comes separate.

I was tempted by that grille but was concerned that, like so many non-manufacturer products, that it would be inferior. If the plastic is cheaper quality then there is a risk that you'll snap the grille when putting the surround on it.
