Retrofitting PDC (Park Distance Control) + PLA (Park Lane Assist)

I can’t remember what year it is I think it’s 2008-9 ish that they came from factory with the MK60CE1 unit in. I had to change mine from the MK60 which was fun. New brake lines and manually building the massively long code from scratch later I was so happy when it finally worked lol.

The coding for the MK60CE1 contains the last 6 or 7 digits of the chassis. Some very clever people have worked out what digit translates to what. I’ve got the info saved so if people need it I can post it anytime if needed. It’s also got the coding changes needed for park assist but I think thats in the golf guide too.

hi, sorry to resurrect an old post but how do you find out what ABS muddle you have? Thanks

You can find it by either scanning via BCD’s it will be in the first screen you go into along with the part number

Auto correct scan with vcds god knows what BCD’s is haha

thankyou, am I wrong in thinking the mk60ce1 will come from factory with mine? It’s a 2011 S3 3dr

It should I think they changed it around 2009 ish but if I’m doubt you could always call Audi or tps and get the part number.

Troubs must be right.
Mine is a 2010 model and had the MK60EC1.
VCDS: this is the way!

awesome write up and job man! did you have to order your buttons or was it part of the car already?
I can't find the last button (8P0927123) anywhere.

I can't find the last button (8P0927123) anywhere.
There are two types of buttons/panels.
- each button has its own connector and in this case you just need just the last button (8P0927123)
- all buttons have just one connector. In this case you must find the whole unit that has all the buttons.

If yours is like mine, you just need the button. If you can’t find it used, check the dealership. It is 23€ or something. Not much.

So do you have front and rear PDC from factory?

One more in the club!

Finished the retrofit today (after small Korona pause). Thank You all for help, especially George's wiring drawing, that helped me to create my own wiring from scrapyard wires (not Kufatec, saved 80€). Total cost 150€. Works perfect (tested both left and right side parking)!!! Great graphical view of sensors on RNSE!

Hi @Aco B

Can you give you partnumber of modul PDC?

Thanks

PR-7X1 is PDC (only rear sensors)
PR-7X2 is PDC (rear and front sensors)
PR7X5 is PDC + PLA (park assist. The car parks itself)

What do you want to install?

hello,

it will be to put front and rear,

O just have this modul

I think this part number is like the 8P0919475N which is Front and Back PDC. Without PLA.

Hey to all,
since yesterday the park assist stoped working.
The only thing changed at the car was a BCM replacement that I did 2 days ago. After the BCM swap, I tested the car and park assist worked as it should. The next day (yesterday) it died. I cannot think of any reason it has to do with the BCM swap.

VCDS says
Address 10: Park/Steer Assist (J791) Labels:. 8P0-919-475-7X5.clb
Part No SW: 8P0 919 475 K HW: 8P0 919 475 B
Component: PARKHILFE PLA H07 0120
Revision: 11001001 Serial number: --------------
Coding: 000203
Shop #: WSC 01236 758 00200
VCID: 46890BDAF1A7E47FE3-8012
2 Faults Found:
01549 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
009 - Open or Short to Ground
01549 - Supply Voltage for Parking-Aid Sensor
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded

Today I started troubleshooting.
From the measurement blocks, I had "Sensor supply voltage" around 0.5-1 V.
Disconnected the read PDC, same.
Connected the rear PDC and Disconnected the front PDC+PLA, 12.5 V.
So one of the front sensors is dead.
Checked the pins in the 8t connector just before the front bumper, had 12V as it should.
Tomorrow I will remove the front bumper to test the front 6 sensors one by one!
For now I am planning to bridge the faulty's sensor signal with another sensor until I buy some sensors.
I am thinking of buying some used genuine sensors and I have a friend coming to Greece from Germany in 20 days. Faster delivery than the post. (post is still about 1-1.5 months from Europe since corona).
FIY the sensors ware all chinese clones so I am not surprised one failed.

Cool trick to test the sensors with just your smartphone, each working sensor is making a sound (we cannot hear it) but the smartphone mic can record it.
Example video

Follow up, found the faulty sensor. Just one out of the 6 front.
Ordered already some second hand genuine ones.
I thought that with the faulty sensor disconnected completely, if I bridge the signal wire with some other sensor's signal wire that the module would think that all sensors are present. Didn't happen. Had an error to both sensors this time. Something intermittent but can't remember exactly. The system didn't work.
Anyway, waiting for the sensors to arrive.

Unfortunately mate it’s an all or nothing system which sucks if one pla sensor dies you also loose parking aid. Congrats on the bcm conversion it’s not that bad is it? I just found it time consuming

Hey mate! I didn’t do a bcm conversion like you did. I just replaced the bcm with a newer version. We talked about it some months ago, where the bcm would not remember some coding changes like “mirror dip on reverse”.

hello everyone!
New here and forgive me, not an Audi owner, but a VW Golf! But bear with me!
First of all a big THANKS to all posters in this thread, especially to @George Kost, for his help (we talked in Messenger as well!).
Well... this thread was the inspiration for my retrofit!
My car is a late-2008 Golf Mk5 TSI (140HP, DSG6) model, but with some very good factory installations. For excample, the ABS unit is a MK60EC1 (AP with long coding!). Also the Can Gateway was a Q, later exchanged for an AA unit.
I was researching the PLA retrofit for maybe three years now.
I finally did it and IT WORKS!
What did I do?
I started looking at ebay used parts and also got a few new ones.
Used and new parts: rear bumper harness, complete with 4 sensors!
4 used (FIAT, no less!) sensors for the front bumper. (They are Valeo, exact same Valeo part number. Still working!)
Used front bumper harness
Used PLA 1.5 module (1T0 919 475P)
Two buttons for the ashtray
two new PLA sensors for front bumper
various brackets, connectors and holders were bought new from local VW/Audi dealers
After consulting with George, I bought a lot of cables from conrad.de so I built my own harnesses:
One from the front bumper to the PLA unit.
One from the rear bumper to the PLA.
One from the PLA to the Can gateway and the fusebox.
All the time I was messing with this, I was coming back to this thread to get ideas!
It took me the best part of four months to complete!
Here is my detailed story:

I know it's in Greek, my native language, but you can right-click and "translate" to your own language. I think it will make some sense!
Also... a video:

A couple of months later, I upgraded my instrument cluster with a white one from an EOS, and it shows in there also, of course!

Once again, thanks everyone in this thread for their specific and interesting comments!

Nice one and good job. One thing I would recommend is installing another two side sensors on the rear bumper, replacing the rear abs sensors and parking ecu to get park assist 2.0 (parallel and bay parking) I did this a few years ago but as the a3 never had bay parking the dash doesn’t switch over to it. But as yours is a Golf it should be fine.

Hi! Thanks for the kind words and the inspiration too!
Well... my car is a "previous" generation (2004-2008). It would not accept the PLA 2.0 as it is. I would have to change the ABS module and pump with a B-model, which is something I sould not do! I am a bit afraid to mess with that! however, my AP ABS accepts the PLA 1.0 or 1.5, so I went with 1.5!

Hey Stelios good to see you here too!
If it wasn’t for @Troubs12 who gave so many advices in this post and @henkkeumus who started the thread in the first place, I wouldn’t imagine doing it as well!!
What amazes me is that if you are lucky you can retrofit a feature that was not available for your generation. For example your cluster displays the park assist as it was available for the MK5.
On the A3 though as Troubs said, the gen 2.0 does not display correctly when changing from parallel to bay parking.
Another think is that your aftermarket HU displays the OPS. I have asked various Android HU manufacturers and none of them can support OPS for the A3 8P.
Finally regarding the luck I talked about, I was thinking if Side Assist could be retrofitted on my A3 (was never available for the 8P). But since I found no one that has done it, I am not investing in expensive parts that might not work. Troubs?

Side assist you say…. Hummm leave it with me lol.

Also thanks man I appreciate the props. When I took on the job of retrofitting it (about 7 years or so now) no one had done it on an a3 but I found a lot of useful mk5 posts that enabled me to do it. But I did also have to change the abs unit from Mk60 to mk60ce1. That was a pain but worth it as now I can use pla 2.0 if I wanted to along with Hill hold and dis based tyre pressure monitoring.

I’m still trying to get pla 2.0 to display properly, I’ve a mk6 golf dash to play with and a couple 8V ones. My plan is to either custom firmware it or make some sort of hybrid spawn of a dash lol

I would go for pla 2.0 if the dash would display properly! So keep as informed if you sort this out!
As for side assist, that would add a nice feature in the car and a useful one!

Definitely will keep this updated. Side assist though might be tricky as “officially there’s a hell of a lot of stuff to get the system working. If I remember correctly the sensors behind the rear bumper need all sorts of “magic” to set up.

Well, as for my "red" cluster, I saw the "same" type of cluster on a Passat B6 I think, WITH PLA 1.5! So, I naively thought "hey, the same instrument cluster as mine"! Then, moving on to a 2010 EOS cluster, I was simply sure it would show it. (I guess it would show bay parking, as well). For the MK5, VW only offered rear PDC, not even front ones!!!!!
For Android units, maybe you should ask Isud@r if they make one for your car? I specifically asked if they offer this option... They said yes.
I m done with retrofits on my own car! I have retrofitted every option available! It's as we say "fully full of extras"!

Hey! First of all, thanks again for the inspiration, pics, words, everything! We will stray away from the original topic, the PLA, but really I've retrofitted every imaginable option, and then some! Just check my page: www.steliosh.net/golf/ (mind you, it's in Greek, but easily translatable).
I have not retrofitted roof racks (useless for me!), rubber mats (ugly!), mudflaps (same! ugly!).
But the PLA was really some task, maybe the longest and hardest to materialize.
I keep having a couple of interesting, but NOT annoying issues:
Address 44: Steering Assist Labels: 1Kx-909-14x-44.clb
Control Module Part Number: 1K1 909 144 M
Component and/or Version: EPS_ZFLS Kl.069 H08 1901
Software Coding:
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 028 00001
VCID: 3566B9FB5C52D196BE-8060
1 Fault Found:

03075 - Parallel Parking Assistance Control Module (J791)
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Mileage: 136680 km

I get this error from the Park Assist module. It's "intermittent", but does not do anything really. The system works, every time i want it.
Then, I seem to not be able to "activate" the Park Assist when coding the ABS. (I cannot also activate the XDS, even if it shows). I am having talks with a friend with ODIS, so maybe there's an update available for my ABS unit, so that I can click both PLA and XDS!
In this pic, I have clicked on the Park Assist, but when I close it and press DO IT, it just does not stay clicked... MY ABS is also without any faults, ever.

Hi have you changed the value in 44 steering electrics? Off the top of my head I can’t remember which one but I will check and post here (adaption channel 4 I think). I only ask as it’s easily missed

hi! yers of course! One o the very first things I did when coding it.
In fact (see pic!), there are three options:
0 is PLA 1.0
1 is PLA 1.5/2.0
2 is PLA not installed.
So, when I click on 0, it works. When I click on 1 (PLA 1.5 for me), if I go to ABS and click on PLA it says "Request out of range", but still the system works, while if I click 0, then go to ABS it says DO IT, it "works" but it doesnt stay clicked, as I said earlier!!! And it also works there!!! So, I have it at 1 for now...
Crazy Group VAG and its electronics!
And it throws this error for good measure, but STILL WORKS!!!!!!! It's just annoying, checking for errors and seeing the 44 showing red!

Luckily my aftermarket grille had drill postitioning on them. Unfortunatly the brackets didnt fit so I had to adjust them a bit. Tight but good fit! I will let them dry for a day and come back tomorrow.

Hopefully my PLA is painted by this week so I can put everything back on.

Personally I used a two-part epoxy glue for plastics from my local hardware store.
make sure to check the time it needs to set and to completely cure.
mine was 5 minutes to set and 8-10 hours to completely cure. So after 5 minutes, I could handle the glued part and install the sensor.

Just wondering, but does anyone know which year PLA became available as a factory option on the A3?

I think it was 2009-10 i think that’s when they changed to Mk60ce1 abs units and the gen3 steering rack. All the diagrams on elsa say “from 2009” I think

What are you looking for?
The pinout or the connector itself?
I think the connector you are looking for is 8E0971980. 10 pins connector.

FYI the red-6 pin connector is for different panel where each button has it's own connector. Yours seems to have the 10 pin "multi"connector.

Hi @Georg Kost

yes exact, for 10 pin plug. I already have this connector, now I needed to know what connection I make in this connector :)

I can't understand how to do it
