@Boj27 - I know you said that I'd need the newer MMI controller but do you think my current one would still work? Maybe just with a couple of the silver side buttons not doing anything. The newer one has a button either side of the dial, my one has 4. Or are the connections on the back different?
The menus on the new MIB2 units are different. For example, on MIB1, you press one of the silver buttons to go to the menus in the corners. On MIB2 you don’t have that, you just have 1 bit on either side of the screen which you press one of the 2 big silver buttons to get to. So basically without it you can’t navigate the menus on the screen properly.
Just a word of warning, I changed the system as you’re going to do, but the illumination at night on MIB2 controller is white. The rest of the prefacelift buttons and switches in the car are red, so it won’t match. White looks a lot more modern, and if your OCD is anything like mine and @larbel then you’ll be changing them all too! I actually swapped all mine are for very little cost as all my old units sold
