@phope74 that’s poor mileage and those conti sports have a reputation for it. Good choice on the Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetrical 3

All depends upon the driving conditions and the car. My fronts have done 11600 but it is all stop start driving...

"as original as possible" - yet you very wisely improved the vehicle with 66% of the DTUK Trilogy, ;-)

We may agree to differ in opinion, but those tyres are your only contact with mother earth and the S4 is a performance vehicle, so, to me, why fit tyres that are are 6 yrs old technology. Also, I normally swap fronts to rears to wear down to replace the set. This time those disappointing P Zeros. Swapping also became a no-brainer after a wheel alignment to stop that dreaded wear on the inside fronts. Fortunately I caught it whilst they were not too bad.

Only because I may well be handing the car back in less than a years time and I can remove the tuning box myself and it, with the TCU tune, is my fun. Also I am not going to fit a different brand of tyres to the ones on my rears, which have some life left in them yet. So I am not going to waste money on replacing all four if I am going to hand the car back. I have found the Hankooks just fine and just as a point of information, Hankook sponsor a number of major motorsport events with their tyres used in some, DTM to name just one and fitted to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb winner's vehicle for several years. They also made a bid to be the tyre manufacturer in Formula 1, so I like the connection.
My right front has worn evenly but my left has slightly more wear on the outside, this is the one I can spin up at a particular junction so its not surprising it has more wear...

Your situation is noted & am very aware of Hankook's motorsport involvement and actually have mentioned their DTM partnership in a previous post, elsewhere. My point was that irrelevant of the tyre manufacturer, it means ****** all of their motorsport, or whatever, development over the last 5 yrs if their tyre was released in 2012. Each to their own, that is why there are so many brands & types of tyres on the market.

Quite, everyone, it seems, has an opinion about tyres, and rightfully as we all will, based upon their own experiences, be them right or wrong. But I really doubt if there is a great deal of difference in the premium brands. I have had experiences of many, michelins, conti's, pirelli, falkens, dunlops, remoulds, radial and crossply with the conti 2's wearing out at 7500 miles on my mk4 mondeo and being particularly bad at tramlining. The falkens I fitted after them were cheaper and better.
To be honest, for my style of driving and the driving conditions, my choice is the right choice...

I can't comment on the mileage - my wife drives it 99% of the time...:whistle2:

I have a company 420d xDrive and they pay for all maintenance/tyres for mine, but usually get a new car every 6 months on average

To be fair, I’ve found the S4 standard for Hankooks to be really good whether they’re new or old technology. On 16k miles now, 9k of which have been on the Hankooks (rather than winter tyres) and they still have 6mm tread left so I really can’t complain. That includes plenty drag strip action where they hooked up every time from cold.

My fronts are down to 3.1mm on the Front. Not bad for 22,500 miles. These Hankooks are a damn site better than the contis I had on my last A4. Double the mileage already!

The Audi fitment Hankooks have the WORST rim protection I have ever seen on a tyre! The slightest sniff near a kerb and the alloys gets kerbed. Never had that issue with the Contis on my last A4!

Interesting you say that. I shunted the test car against a curb coming off a roundabout so much that the rear of the car jumped sideways a bit. Was mortified I did it and expected a massive chunk out of the alloy but there was nothing as the Hankook had taken the hit completely!

And yet from an earlier post:
"After 20,000 miles just changed from Hankooks to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (18 inch ) . Car seems to be more seated and less lighter which for me is a good thing. Can't hear any difference in noise. The only small negative is that the rim protection doesn't appear to be as pronounced as the Hankooks. Overall i am pleased and if they last the same in terms of mileage then i'll stick with the Michelins."
As stated before, tyres seem to be such a subjective thing :)

Very much agree! I've not hit mine on anything yet because I try to be as careful as possible all the time, but I know that the protection is pretty good from past experience.

The lack of decent rim protection is the only negative of these tyres in my opinion. Great grip and longevity.

Tyres fitted, tracking done with the front left being slightly out, as I thought. No surprises and all above board, rim protection seems fine. Only maybe my partner should drive as her alloys are always perfect even after five years of ownership of her car. Perhaps I don't drive it enough ;-)

Certainly does as the old ones were starting to tramline, only driven the car home for a few miles but all things, ride and steering response feels 'lighter'. If you understand what I mean

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 fitted today - look to have a reasonable protector for the rim. Fitting garage did a top notch job of fitting with not even the slightest mark on the wheels. Quick jet wash to remove the glue residue when I got home and the car is even looking clean instead of dirty winter brown

Doh, major faux pas!! Checked all tyre pressures before our trip carrying christmas in the back of the car, inflated the rears but forgot one thing - to set the tpms within the mmi.
Consequently got up to 80mph, shhh, then the low pressure warning went off.

i tell you for why, as some of you know i had all my tyres replaced, did not reset the TPMS and this morning driving along and all of a sudden loss of pressure OSF tyre checked the pressure it was 26. either i have a slow puncture already or something else

Yes seeing as the car's handling was uneffected and at the previous service by Audi in October they'd also set the tyre pressures lower. When I had the front tyres replaced Kwik Fit set them to 36psi, then, having checked them before setting off yesterday, they were still fine and only I adjusted the rears for the extra weight of all the booze we had for our stay at a lodge over christmas. But I should have set the monitor within the MMI, a schoolboy error really.
So I guess the extra speed made the abs sensors react but I do prefer our fiesta's version were it gives individual tyre pressures...

Yes from Costco I know they wouldn’t mess about using old valves I’m thinking they may have not fully filled up that tyre?
