Removing roofrail scratches - advice please

Just put a couple of scratches on the roofrails of my new S3 while I was fitting Thule roofbars. Is it possible to remove these by machine polishing or some other detailing method or would they need a SMART repair of stripping respraying and lacquering? Advice appreciated.
