Just had my S3 serviced at local vw centre (specialists)
Service cost £126.81 + VAT Total £149

I supplied the oil for them as i was going to do it myself
Included in price
New Oil filter
New Pollen filter
Is £126 + VAT a good price?

Also I had the sump removed and new oil strainer fitted along with a new oil pick up pipe.
That cost me £115.45 + VAT Total £135.65 for parts and labour they said it was a 2.5 hour job that seems a little long to me or is it about right price for the job?

I would have done it myself but done have the time/space at the min

sounds about right, its an hour or so work to pull the sump and replace, then factor in cleaning, replacing the pick up etc.

cheers what about the price of a service 149 without supplying oil would that be right

assuming they checked and adjusted what they were supposed to it's not a bad price for a service, however looking again at what you put they charged you for the service AND then the sump removal?

That's a bit rich in the respect of the oil and filter needs to be changed anyway, add an additonal 1'5 hrs to the service figure would have covered it

Does the £149 include a vehicle inspection? Oil filter and pollen filters are very cheap, and take 5 minutes each to install if you know how. Oil change is easy as if you know how to also, so you are paying £149 for the stamp in your service book in my opinion, but it's not to say it's a ripoff. You also mentioned you was going to tackle the job yourself, so I presume you have some experience of the work involved, why not tackle it yourself and save £130 odd in the process?

The sump and strainer part is not something I'm comfortable with, so I would have to pay someone to do it, so can't comment on price there.

an hour, tops, and thats if you were cleaning the existing strainer

i paid £50 for my sump
£5 oil filter
£20 oil
£10 sealent/gasket

took about a hour and half to remove, clean up then replace

Yeah it was an inspection service i would have tackled it myself but time and space are not on my side at the min

just checking what it should cost and see if i will be taking it back there in the future

2.5 hours does seem a little long for the sump work as the oil would have already been droped for the service is it worth me questioning it?

how would you argue it though? theyve had your trousers down

£149 for an oil change and pollen filter is a joke too.

just done mine,
Started at 12, did an engine flush(wymms), drained it and filled up with fresh oil ran for 10 mins and drained again. then removed sump and oil pick up and cleaned.
Refitted and filled with fresh oil.
Finshed at 5 job done!!!

Im doing mine very soon. I get all my parts at cost price as i work at a motor factors :-D

Whats the oil pick up pipe & is it worth doing & also how hard is it ?

its the pipe that takes the oil out the sump to pump around the engine, IIRC

the oil pick up is the reason why youre going into the sump....

get a can of brake/carb cleaner and a fine brush and clean it
