Good afternoon all,

New to this, so be gentle with me!

I recently took delivery of my new A3 Black Edition 2.0TDI 170 which I am enjoying very much. I do however have a slight issue - Power!! Having given back my BMW 330d after a two year lease, I am slowly noticing the reduced number of ponies under the bonnet and its soemthing I dont think I will be able to ignore as much as I love the car.

So to my point. I have read so many articles on remapping which if I am honest have just confused me even more, so I am after some current and upto date advice (most of the threads I found tended to be from a year or so back).

With the following in mind, can you honest and pleasant people please help me with my decision;

The car is on a three year lease, so ultimiately needs to go back at the end of the term in standard factory condition.

The remap is the only thing I am looking to do (bearing in mind the above) so am lookng for the best bang for bucks that wont require any further modifcations to the car.

It would be helpful if I could hide the fact the car was remapped at the end of the term when its returned.

I dont want to blow anything up, due to the remap being too agressive etc, but I do want to feel an improvement when 'driving' the car.

I have read plenty about Bluefin, Revo, Chipped UK ST3 (most threads not that recent as mentioned).

Your help guys (and experiences would be great).

Many thanks and much appreciated

Paul

I wouldnt advise getting a 170 remapped without taking into account other mods tbh

I wouldnt advise getting a 170 remapped without taking into account other mods tbh

Reason?

I had my Leon 170 mapped and it went like jobbies off a shiny shovel.

I didn't have any other mods and never encountered a problem.

I had my leon fr 170 remapped by custom code and never had any faults in 3yrs. The newer engine is common rail and cleaner so is much less likely to cause problems with the dpf (diesel particulate filter/exhaust) than the older 170 tdi. Remapers are plentifull, depends on who is your nearest reputable dealer and go from there.........

Cheers guys,

I am based on the Wirral near Chester if anyone has any reccomendations on where to go? Should I consider the likes of Bluefin etc? being able to 'hide' the fact the car was remapped is something I am keen on or should I be looking at a custom remap?

Cheers

Paul

I got my map done at angel tuning and couldnt be happier :) i beleive they have stations all over the conutry, there should be more info on their website

mine was done with motech, and its awesome, they have a huge amount of good feedback from customers, i think the specialise in diesels too

Really appreciate the feedback gents, keep it coming!! :)

I guess my one question with regards the companies you have mentioned, would be how easy is it to set the car back to the factory setting when I need to return the car?

Cheers again

2day i ordered a Bluefin for my audi a3 quattro tdi pd 170. My old seat tdi cupra 150 was remapped with superchips and i had no problems, so I'm hoping for similar results. Have been toying around with the idea for months as I was also a little disappointed with the A3 170 tdi compared to my old cupra which was remapped to 195bhp and returning 50mpg. Will let you how I get on. Got 7 days to decide weather I like it or not.

I am in similar position

Have just gone from an A3 2.0T Fsi Special Edition (which was nicked) to a Tdi 140 Black Edition. Like Paul above this is a lease car and needs to go back in 3 years so no permanent mods.

Wouldn't mind a bit more poke though I have to say I am not missing the 200bhp as much as I thought I would Most of my driving is around town and the 140 isn't bad at all in that respect.

Bluefin may be your best bet, easily removed and puts car back to stock. Revo puts back a revo-version of a stock map and I think fiddles with the flash counter - which Bluefin doesnt. I'm near Chester, I've used Awesome GTI and Dubsport in the past. You could also try QR Sport in Tatenhall - last time I asked they didnt map the S3's but may be able to help. There's also a Revo dealer in Sandycroft but I have trouble getting them to reply to me. However, with Bluefin you can order it online, upload your map and have the new one sent back to you to upload within a day sometimes. Easy peasy.

Need to speak to an expert really but the bloke who did mine in the North East, who knows his stuff to say the least, said the 170 engines have injector problems and are often going pop.

Angeltuning save your settings on your database so if you want it put back to factory settings you can get this done by them

Hey Paul hope this helps: Got my bluefin today for my a3 170tdi (pd) quattro. Ws easy to set up and took around half hour, the new map was ready straight away. Took it for a quick spin and 1st and 2nd was noticeably pokier at mid range and pulled eagerly -feels a lot more rapid in 2nd. Not much of a difference in 3rd and haven't had a chance to boot it in 4th, 5th and 6th. Superchips tech support were very helpful and its easy to use - takes 5 mins to change back to the original map.
