So I'm sat here waiting for recovery after the dreaded red light flashed up on the dash this morning!!
Second time in 6 months after having already had an engine rebuild!
Well that's it now, even though the repair is covered by a 12 month warranty I'm getting rid.
Such as shame because other than the engine issues it's the perfect all round car, fast, practical, 4x4 and stylish.
I won't be risking another B7 and so I am genuinely gutted. This car is the first to put a big smile on my face on every trip but my experiences with critical engine failure have seriously damaged my faith in Audi and so I am not sure what to get next??

good that you didn't risk driving the car as many do and regret later on

but could be the sensor so fingers crossed.

Thats a b*****d ! Really bad news that its failed so soon after the rebuild, can understand its shaken your confidence in the car.....

Hope you get a satisfactory outcome when the engine is re-rebuilt.

Cheers guys, would love it to be a faulty connection but with my last experience of the light it wasn't.
I pulled over as soon as was safe to do so and turned off the engine.
Hopefully caught it in time but I will let a mechanic be the judge of that.
Still sat waiting to be loaded on the back of the wagon. Luckily sat in my girlfriend's nice warm BMW

When the light came on was the engine still running or sounding okay at this point? Or were there some horrible noises. Which of course if it was the later you already know the scenario. If its not could be something minor.

But that said a lot of friends and customers I deal with are very much loosing faith in this 2.0tfsi engine. Which is a great shame.

no noises or anything, but there weren't any the last time.
The last time I was able to restart the car and carried on driving until it just cut out and I lost all power steering etc.
This time I limped off the bypass and pulled over at the side of the road out of the way of the busy traffic.
I just hope the recovery guys don't try and turn it on when it's back at the impound, I did warn them not to.

Keep us posted..

And if it was my car I would have taking one of the fuses out :D

So they cant start the vehicle.

Or put a big sticker or not saying no oil pressure do not start

What a headfu&k!! Really sorry to hear your woes......you must be totally f@cked off. What is your emgine code and type Mucker.

Oh man, I feel your pain, that's terrible! Your first engine failure was just before mine, I sold my car unfixed and have decided against another Audi. You should take off any decent parts and sell the car standard like I did. Get some of your cash back.

I'm saving up for a Subaru Impreza STI (2.0T GC8 Type R with widebody conversion). Much more fun, excellent engine noise, more powerful and easily tunable. Parts are much cheaper and the specialist garages are way better than VAG ones! Should save loads of money on labour too. Audi Solihull £140/hr, Scooby Clinic and others half that. Yes, the interiors aren't as great, but I'll be upgrading the fronts with Recaros, retrimming the fabric interior and changing the stereo (better than Bose anyway).

GLWTS....

Been down the subaru route mate and, as much as they are great cars, they can also be utter PITA 's , i've have several from 2006 year onward inc a 3.0 spec b legacy estate, great kit but they have there own set of issues which do have a tendancy to run accross all the engines and chassis, to be honest mate from experience parts are not cheap and some are stupid money so " buyer be-aware" is key here.
Labour varies also depending on your locale.
make sure you get shed loads of history with receipt to cover work done, they have all been thrashed no matter what you might get told , its the nature of the beast, sti's are no less likely to get pushed to limit than any other sporty subaru, anything subaru with a turbo under the bonnet means business.
check the wear on the clutch and brake pedals , they will give you a good idea of how its been driven, unless they are new in which case pobably applies.
just my input from purchasing and owning one.

oh yes , forgot say mate, be sure to fully road test any subaru and listen for any whinning noises, centre diff bearings wear/failures are very common and can be a very costly repair, (been there so know all about it) .
good luck

sorry for the hijack quattrodude.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've owned a few classic STI Scoobies myself over the years and had far fewer issues than with the many VAGs I've owned. Will make sure engine is close deck block & forged from a decent tuner....

Whatever you decide to do, good luck! All my Audi parts are now selling nicely...

Update for you all. I spoke to the workshop today and on initial inspections they think it is a chain / oil pump problem. Also it will be repaired under warranty which is good.
I didn't get a chance to ask the mechanic for a full 'What' 'Why' and 'How' and so is anyone able to descibe what they think has happened here?

No way!! Again!!
Hope you get it sorted mate, atleast it's under warranty this time....

False alarm apparently! Mechanic took the bottom end apart (before pressure testing it for some reason ) and nothing out of place. Put it back together, pressure tested it, took it for a few spins, no problem and no warning lights!
Weird, must have been a dodgy sensor. Either that or I stopped the engine just in time.
I drove it home over 30 miles and it was fine so happy days.
Only problem is, is that I've traded it in for a brand new Golf GTD to pick up this Wednesday

Did you replace sensor/switch etc mate?

I had the light come on...spent £300 with new pickup and clean it out plus new filter etc and it went again in 2 days.

Turns out it was a faulty switch/sensor. Same as you i had an engine pressure test and all is well. Fingers crossed!
