I bought my car from my local dealers stock allocation and it had a few extras that I wouldn't personally have included. One of these was red calipers. I have to admit I'm not loving them...

I think it would be too difficult to swap with someone who has black calipers and wants red, so I'm considering getting the colour changed by a firm that refurbishes brakes.

Is there any recommendations from people on who to use? Would rather pay for a proper job than end up with something I wasn't happy with.

I’m picking up my RS3 next week. Has standard calipers but wanted red, I was planning to get them resprayed, so very interested in hearing recommendations.

If swapping was a viable option I’d definitely be interested, but I’d assume if you were going to swap you’d want somebody with a brand new set.

Mine is a PFL sportback if it makes any difference.

I love the red calipers. Surprised you want to get rid of them.

Be careful on who you choose to re-coat the calipers. It should be done very professionally.

Note the colour coat on your calipers is quite thick. Many will want to lay a thin powder coat on top with the result it will be a complete mess.

The existing colour must be taken off before a new coat is applied and then you must decide on a cheaper powder coat or a more sophisticated finish that requires a higher bake that in turn requires the piston seals removed and the bores blanked in order to get the paint in behind the caliper wrap. One mistake in the painting will be baked in and there for all to see, so you must get a specialist who is willing to re-work a claiper if necessary.

I understand that BCS are good and will ensure a finish to reasonable satisfaction. https://www.bcs-automotive.co.uk

My car is off the road at present and funnily enough, I was considering having my black calipers stripped and painted yellow. I'd use red though if you do want to swap...

Might be an option Hal. Certainly save us both some hassle and expense! (although we'd probably just spend it elsewhere on the car!)

I used BCS on a set of new, Focus RS Brembo’s / Ford rears and they did a poor job then wouldn’t step up to the plate. If you are fussy don’t use them. This was one of the rears before it was even fitted. 1686E4E9-8B97-40FB-959E-09F6E3B61B68.jpeg

    That's shocking! :wtf:

Precisely why advice from others in so invaluable. I already had a quote from them, bullet dodged there!

OK, my point I think - it looks to me as if the first colour has not been removed hence the bunched up look of the paint. Either that or it is just a poor powder coat, Thanks though for sharing the pic as I have not had anything from them to look at other than their marketing pics that are most likely lifted from the manufacturers!

It was a £357 project on calipers that had been on the car for less than 50 miles. I don’t think it was unreasonable of me to expect decent work. At very least, I reckon they should have tried to help when I indicated there was a problem. They talk a good job though.
