Hi guys, was talking to a mate of mine this morning who's just ordered a MK7 Golf with the entry level 1.4 engine, and he tells me that these entry level motors come with a live rear axle (i.e. torsion beam), and the more usual multi link fully independant suspensions are kept back for the more powerful engines (140 petrol and 150 Diesels and above).

He also told me that the salesman at VW had told him that all the VAG family hatches (Golf, A3, Leon and Octavia), will all be built with this more "agricultural" rear set up. Just wondering if this is actually the case with the 1.4 TFSI 122ps engine ?

It's only engines below 122PS that get the torsion beam.
