Hi Guys/Girls
After planning it for a while to the plunge and upgraded all my speakers to JL audio TR650-CWi's for the front and TR650-CXI's for the rear. So though while I'm at it make a quick guide how to get access to them.
Before:

After:

I would say its about 2/5 difficulty and took about 30mins per side.
This is the only reference I had to go by haha

1. Remove the cover of the fuse box on the drivers side.

2. Then remove this C shaped cover by pulling upwards, its held down by one clip.

3. Start with the tab at the front then by pulling on at a time the trim clips will come out.
The bits of tape show exactly where the clips are.

4. Once all the previous clips have been pulled out you have to pull the end piece towards the front of the car, might be stiff but give it a good tug and it should come out.

After you should be left with this.

5. Next is the tricky bit. by prizing the trim out a little bit, enough to get you hand behind. Then give it a good pull out and to the left slightly.

This Is the back of the trim so you can see exactly how it fits in.

6. Now fold down the rear seats you will see this plastic cap remove this then the torx bolt behind it.

7. Now the by pushing the trim down and out. Giving it a good pull the clips along the window will start to come out.

You should be left with it like this at the seatbelt. (bit of a gap)

8. One final pull at the front and off it comes like this.

9. Pulling it back will reveal the speakers.

Then the reverse for putting it back together, make sure all the clips are in place before reinstalling as this might lead to rattling.

Would like to say a think you to Andy Mac for recommending these speakers and his adapters top quality!!
Also my question about everything haha

Great write up ....:icon_thumright:

30 mins? What about removing the seats like you have lol, or do you not have to do that?

Never timed it exactly but was around that.
Removing seats only take a few minutes, probably not needed but makes life easier.

Cozza: i believe you left off 1 crucial part and you did 90% of the work, so why didn't you sound deaden the front doors? the difference with abit of Focal Bam or dynamatt would of made your speakers sound like there from a much much higher price bracket,

many sound installers who do hi end installs in Australia wont just do a front door speaker swap over without doing the dynamatt or focal Bam with sound diffuser, is your interested in install pics: check out Fhrx Studios Pty Ltd - Audio / Visual Specialists there one of the best around.
thats just my 2cent:)

Funny you should say that, I have done the front doors but not the back section as I run out but it on my to do list.
I did notice a difference when I done the boot less road noise.
Ill have a read of the link later.
Cheers anyway

Very nice guide m8 :)
How much of a difference did the new speakers make over standard m8?

Cozza: what did you end using to do the doors? helps with road nice, base response just helps so much for such a pretty easy mod esp when you have the doors apart.

Thanks Robbie, I only had the cheap originals so big improvement.
Not an audiophile but sound as good as the Bose in my brothers S3

I used this stuff. RATTLEMATT x 20 SHEETS!! Car Audio Sound Deadening Proofing Sheets Pads Panels | eBay
rattle mats, seems pretty good cant compare to other makes as I haven't tried them. TBH road noise was my main concern but it has been a big improvement.

Great guide

Are you still running these off the HU or an external amp?

Brings back some memories of running 0awg and dynamatting my old A3 T sport :)

cheers
yeah still running from original HU, an amp would probably make it better but that's beyond me..

Easy enough dude!! Power line, rca's, earth to chassis and remote cable!! If your running components in the front then i
I would get jl 300/4 amp. Power the front and rears from one and it will make it sound like a different system!!

Now I'm fairly confident in the usual retrofits, but sound system just puzzle me!..
Everything u said there sounds all very good, is it easier that u make out to be?
