    Hey guys,

Not seem many threads covering this and the ones i saw didnt have much info. I saw someone mention that the A3 cant take a rear mounted bike rack cos of the spoiler? i have the A3 Sport so not the same as the S3 rear spoiler so do you think this would be ok? I already have a 3 bike rear bike rack so didnt really want to splash out on a roofrack and then the bike holder part. Would prob cost around £300! The spoiler does seem a bit flimsy when i tested the rack but not 100% sure if it will hold as cant see where the clips hold on to, either the boot or the spoiler.

Any views on how you transport bikes would be great. I will be covering around 1000miles with them strapped on so wanted the best, safest, most cost effective option.

You could go for the tow bar install option. At least at the end you'll have a tow bar to use ongoing

    My opinion is:
I am traveling a lot with my bike and for me this is the easiest way to transport the bike.
It is steady and quit easy to put on and off. Another things is that it doesn't get so dirty as it would be transporting the bike behind the car.

Good question, I looked at my S3 spoiler and wouldn't fancy taking the chance hooking onto it or the sport spoiler tbh, even if someone said it would be OK! I know £300 is a pain to fork out, but at least you know they'd be safe with the 'correct fitting'...how much would it cost in spoiler/boot repairs and bike damage if they flew off the back of the car???

I'd sell the one you have and get a nice new one ;)

Good point S32B. I did have a look but couldnt work out if the rack clips would clip on the spoiler or on to the boot itself. TowBar isnt an option i dont think, never been keen on them and dont see myself owning a trailer as no need and would probably work out more money wise. Adrianbo, how much did it cost for your rack? i see you have the sportback so you have rails fitted right? if i go for the Non-Thule option then it might work out around 150-200 but i do like Thule products!

And it doesn't hide the rear lights like the idiot I was following tonight. Obscuring brake lights and indicators.

He must have had it round the wrong way round. When i tested mine it seems set really high so i get away without blocking lights or plate.

Hi. Yes I have the sportback with rails. I found this for the sedan.

It's the black edition from Thule.
Then you could have the Thule freeride bike carrier on top. Costs around 45 £ for one. Be aware if you are carrying downhill bikes because of the bike frame the freeride rack 532 from Thule might be to short to reach the downtube on a downhill bike.
