Rear Lights on with DRL

I've mentioned previously that my rear rights are illuminated all the time with the DRL, but I am wondering how many others here do the same?
It does state in the handbook that rear lights are on with the DRL in "some markets", which I assume must include the UK.
I have seen other newish A3/S3 models but none of them have had rear lights on during the day.
Could it be this was a change brought in for 2018 model year?

yeah mine are always on, they look cool so its all good
 
i believe this was a change brought in with the FL cars

I enabled rear drl’s. Should be standard imo

All these cars with the bright fog drl’s in the winter evening forget they have no lights on on the back

Mine (FL) are always on, they look great!
 
Great until they either dim or go on the bung after a few years of use.. . Strange very strange as every other new Audi doesn't have them.. . Not a fan

Judging by the above comments it seems to be standard.

I have noticed in our S3 the interior light switch when set to auto mode has the side lights mode lit up at all times which supports and answers the OP question.
 
It must be an S3 exclusive thing then and not A3, because all of the latter that I've seen do not have rear lights on.

No it doesn't. :)
The DRL are active regardless of whether lights are set to auto or not.
 
It’s known as Scandinavian DRLs. Can be coded with OBDeleven or VCDS. Some VAG group cars seem to have it activated and some don’t.
 
Additionally, I'm pretty sure it's only applicable with LED rear lights, I imagine from my19 onwards, all models will have them by default

Nope
Mine are always on as well.
Standard on face lift S Line

That's curious then, because from all the other A3 models I've seen on the road not a single one has had rear lights on. I don't know what trim spec they were but S-line is a very popular choice.

I probably didn’t get across what I meant! The side lights on the light switch cluster is lit green at all times, which I didn’t have on our previous PFL A3, S1 and also our current B9 A4. I’m assuming this supports the fact that the rear lights are always on, as the previous three cars I mentioned didn’t have the rear lights on and the side light was not lit green on the switch.

Got my car in January of last year on a 66 plate s-line my rear drl’s are always on I really like it personally but each to there own I suppose.

It is not a requirement to have rear DRL in the UK, and if you look you'll see that most cars do not have them on.

Its probably been done to make things idiot proof, because some people will drive at night with just the front DRL on....assuming auto lights are not active of course. My previous car had auto lights active by default, they couldn't be turned off.
It's strange that Audi have not made rear DRL a standard feature across the whole range.
Lets hope all of the LED units have a long operating life. :neutral:

It didn't even address what I was asking. :anguished:
Of course it's not a legal requirement to have rear DRL in the UK....everybody knows this.

Sorry didn't mean to point out obvious, it was the comment about some markets having rear DRL and you assuming this ncluded UK...

The statement comes from the handbook.
"some markets" obviously must include the UK if the rear lights are active on my car.
I never suggested or implied any legal requirement for this.
It seems like you have misunderstood at least part of my original post.

Had them coded in on my 16 plate RS3 with the VCDS at my local specialist, if it's there & can be made to work I like to have it done.

My 2016 S3 with LED Headlights (option added) didn't have rear lights on - My 2018 S3 With LED Standard Headlights does - Definitely happened on the Facelift

Why develop a hardware solution when a software tweak already exists
 
Just purchased a late 2015 A7 S-Line 272 Quattro Black Edition - DRL Rears seem to run upon ignition. I love it!

Now to get the Needle Sweep programmed....
 
I think its a good thing, I park my car nose up to my garage door and it is easy to think you have your lights on as the daylight running lights are brighter than the side lights, I will be the first to admit that I have driven away at night with just the daylight running lights on and wondered why I was being flashed! - I will be investigating getting my rears to operate like the fronts, do they have 2 brightness levels like the fronts when correctly coded?
This may help towards increasing the longevity of the LEDs if this is a concern.
