Hi all I’ve recently bought the b8 3.0tdi and I think the previous owner has fitted rear leds. It’s onan 08 plate. All the lights seem to be working just fine so I’m assuming he used the correct harness etc. But each time I turn the ignition I’m getting rear right and rear left light faults and the annoying beep every time. I’ve had it on the vcds and this was its findings. I’m in no means very knowledgable on this so was hoping someone could help before it goes to Audi. Any help much appreciated and if someone can help out I’m happy to pay

Looks like they are not coded correctly . If they were then you shouldn't get those faults.

Hi thanks for replying is it possible to code them with vcds. My friend has them but I’m a novice, and if so do you know what it is I would need to do, thanks

Hi try this but make a note of what the values are in 181 and 191 in case you need to change back because it didn't work but I'am sure this will work for you.
Module 46 Central Convenience > Security Access 16 > 16017 Could you try to set Channel 181 to 0 and see if anything will change - if not then try set 191 to 0 and again see if it helps ??

181 = change the behavior from/to bulb/led.

191 = enable/disable bulb out warning in dash.

@Johnny 161171 your a life saver followed your simple to follow instructions and no more annoying beep or bulb light out. Can’t thank you enough it was driving me insane lol. Whilst I have you here there was one fault when I run a full scan with the vcds and this showed up could you shed any light on this at all? Again your a legend thank you

Hunch and only a hunch is you need a new air quality sensor or you could try cleaning it with brake cleaner as both faults happened same time replacing air sensor should cancel both faults. All the best

Happy you got sorted. The LED tail lights were not on 2008 cars so they were definitely retro fitted and not coded correctly.

Do you have any pics of the lights out of curiosity?

J238 is on the fresh air intake under the bonnet. Remove the cover at the back on the passenger side and you will see the grille. Could be the sensor is defective , I would just try removing the connector and reseating it. I suspect the sensor is like a carbon monoxide detector you might have in a house .
Sniffs the air coming into the car and possibly closes the vent flap if the external air quality is poor.The other fault code is from the K519 module which the j238 sensor connects to. This will clear when you sort the sensor issue.
Look to be about £20 second hand on fleabay.

check the part number on yours. You could try the main dealer or parts dept on here and see how much a new one is. You may get a shock and find out it's cheaper than buying one second hand.
