Rear ended :(

On Tuesday I was approaching a roundabout, came to a stop at the junction, looked across to my right and before I knew what was happening I was smashed into from behind!

The woman somehow managed to hit me twice, there was the initial collision that knocked me forward, followed by a second hit a few seconds later, all I can think is that she panicked, missed the brake and hit the accelerator again.

The car now needs a completely new rear end , bumper, exhaust, sensors and the slam panel etc and what ever else is behind the bumper needs attention after the initial assessment

It's going to Audi Monday morning after a battle to use a garage of my choice. With a promise of a like for like car in the meantime via enterprise, so who knows what I'll receive.

I am also suffering with pains to my neck, back and shoulders, after numerous trips to see doctors, and chiropractors etc with on going support.

Friends and family keep trying to console me that it is just a car but to be honest it's the hardest part to accept. I see what they're saying, but people on here may understand more so on what a car can mean to someone. It's been my pride and joy for 18 months but now I just can't bare to look at it, even once it's been repaired I'll always know it's been in an accident :(

I've been looking at potentially selling it once it's been repaired and debating around the idea of a Focus ST diesel as it's replacement.

Luckily the woman has admitted full liability in all this so it will speed the process up. Dash cam footage was also submitted to her insurance party so there could never be an argument luckily.

Anyway that's my rant over, just see what happens with my A3

Sorry to hear that Mark, it's an absolute bummer.
I agree once they've had a reasonable amount of work they never feel the same. Plus of course any welded panel changes man there's little corrosion protection compared to original.

At least Glacier is an easy colour to match. I hope your aches and pains soon fade.

@MA3RC Sorry to hear about your car. Firstly, I hope you feel better soon. Hopefully once the car is fixed you may feel better about keeping it. Yes we all on here know where you coming from about your car, it's like an extension of yourself that you get emotionally attached to. So we do understand. :) x

Thanks @steeve I wouldn't normally keep cars anything past 4 years so corrosion wouldn't have been a problem for me at least.

Ahh my A3 is brilliant red :( probably a much harder colour to match, my girlfriends A1 is glacier

Sorry to hear this mate, yes it's just a car and the main thing is nobody was seriously injured/killed. BUT it's YOUR car, which like all of us it's your pride and joy.

Hope it gets sorted soon ;)

Sorry to hear mate. At least shes admitting liability AND you have the dashcam footage. (was it a rear dash cam obviously yeah? very good work there if so).

I understand how you feel, I would feel the same way but it is only a car, but if you can't live with a repaired version maybe swap it in for another Audi.

As you state the good thing is that they have admitted liability so all should be sorted in 3 weeks or so. Someone idiot in a Merc hit my daughter side on at a roundabout three weeks back and wrote of her Peogeot and eventually admitted liability after a phone call from me and we have already got a settlement figure and just waiting for the cheque.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

Sorry to hear what happened to you.

A bus scraped against the rear quarter of my A3 2 months ago, it was only 6 months old - I was absolutely gutted. The panel is badly scraped and dented and the rear allow completely ruined, but luckily she's still drivable. The bus driver is protesting liability even though he initially admitted fault, I was in stationary traffic (stop-start activated) and he tried to squeeze between a gap with my car and parked cars on his side.

But I can completely relate with you, I feel very detached from the car now - I rarely wash it anymore and don't feel as much joy driving her. I decided yesterday to suck it up and pay the excess and get her fixed as I can't stand seeing it damaged every day. I'm hoping once fixed I'll enjoy the car again, otherwise I'll probably swap her next year and get something a bit more fun whilst I'm at it. I go through spells of feeling down about the car and my wife really doesn't understand, she likes to remind me I'm lucky to have a nice car - which is true but it's not the same anymore.

I hope you get it fixed quickly, or you eventually find yourself a nice replacement :D

I should really count my blessings by the sounds of things! You really haven't had much luck, I hope things look up for you going forward.

Interesting you say about the STD . what's up with it? other than the name haha, or is the petrol version just a better place to be?

The ST rides and steers (a little) better than an S3, but other than that, what makes you want one?

The ST Tdci is very impressive, but feels a little more nose heavy, and is only really as fast as Golf GTD - it's miles off a petrol ST, and even further off an S3. It's a sensible car with ST looks and fairly proper handling, if that's what you're after its def a more interesting option than a Golf GTD.

I wouldn't have one over an S3 though :)

And to add insult to injury, this is my courtesy car:

:puke2:

They promised me like for like as well, which in their books was a Vauxhall Corsa life..... Seriously?! I grumbled and as a good gesture they upgraded me to this. I still think it's taking the mick a bit, so rang their head office and they're sending me a replacement "prestige vehicle" which can be either a Merc C class, Volvo V40 or BMW 3 series. At least they won't be so bad :haha:

Good for you mate. Bottom line if you're not happy someone hasn't done their job properly!

I'd swerve the Volvo personally but either of the other two will keep you out of mischief in the short term ;)

Yeah I'm not a fan of the volvo but at least that'd be better than the soccer mom car. I'll give an update later this afternoon when I collect it

To be fair insurance companies try it on and book small cars to try and keep costs low but the branch should of noticed that they're about to loose out £50+ a day and done something about it on your behalf. The e-classes aren't bad, bit of a boat in the corners but not a bad motor although foot break is a bit old fashioned.

Technically thats a upgrade to a medium prem, otherwise it would of been a c-class/3 series. I haven't been a volvo v40 for over 6 months but its the best sounding 2.0 diesel I've driven in d5 spec.

If you are not to blame some insurance companies charge a huge amount for the courtesy car to the other insurance company. They are sometimes happy to give you a high spec.

Yeah we know who's to blame, but insurance companies take longer to deduce this,it's not a instant matter

Especially if they have to pay over the odds for a courtesy car !

I love the new Mercedes E class , the E250 cdi is quite nippy and good on fuel. Great looking car and I'm only 25 so no grandad opinion here! Obviously I'd have it in white with black wheels and black roof........ Just kidding ;-)

Our A5 was hit on the right front corner and it needed a new wing, wheel, bumper and headlight. We were given an A5 convertible as a loan car while ours was being repaired.

After two weeks the day came to collect the A5. We picked it up from the body shop and drove 100 yards to the Audi dealer next door where we collected our brand new S3 sportback.

The repairs to the A5 were excellent but i knew i couldn't live with it so it went.
