Hello,
I have an A3 8PA Sportback, 2009 model with DRL.
I want to enable as well the rear lights when I have my DRL enabled.

Acording to this great guide, I should look for:
09 - Central Electronics,
Long Coding Helper:
Byte 0
Bit 3 - Daytime Running Lights (Scandinavia) active - (DRLs plus tailights)
Bit 4 - Daytime Running Lights (North America) active - (DRLs only)
Bit 5 - Assistance Driving Light _Leaving Home active - (Note 1)
Bit 7 - Coming Home active - (Note 1)

I accessed the Central Electronics, but at Byte 0, I have different options.
I checked the other Bytes as well with no luck.

Does anybody know how to activate the rear lights as well?

Best regards,
George

I’ve enabled mine ok, you need to manually change Bit 18. Yours is currently 29, I changed mine from 23 to 24. Try changing this value, try 24, can always be reverted, try stepping the value one by one

Hi thanks!
You mean Byte 18? Not bit.
I will check what options I have available in this Byte and update this thread.

With vcds Byte 18 will warn about making changes but you need to copy the long code into the new code area and manually alter Byte 18 value

Is your light switch like this? With DRL position?
I will for sure check Byte 18 this afternoon.

Yes, once the rear lights have been enabled via byte 18 this light on the switch is also lit along with the

I didn't go on with this one.
At byte 18 I have the following options.
I also had read in a different forum that someone messed up with this byte and couldn't go back to the original state even after reprogramming the module.
So anyway I decided to not try any changes.
Thanks for the help though!

I also had another problem. I tried to activate other features with no luck.
1. Passenger seat belt alert enable (17 - instruments)
2. Horn when locking and unlocking the car (09 - centr. electr. Byte 5, Bits 1 and 4)

None of the above worked. Strange.

I have them both activated on mine with no issues

That is what I also expected.
I will try to find another source with VCDS and try again for sure.
After applying any changes, should I do anything specific? Like turn on the engine or remove the key or anything similar?
After restarting the laptop and checking the modules again, all the changes where still there.

Strange how your having problem’s, once activated should work straight away.
Think I have everything possible activated on mine,

Rear lights with DRL’s
Cornering lights
Coming/leaving home lights
Fog lights on while in reverse
Teardrop swipe on rear wiper
Lane change indicates flash 4 not 3 times
Horn chirp on lock/unlock
Synchronised mirror adjustment
Retrofit cruise control
TPMS

Think that’s about it, sure there must be something else to activate though

OK so I tried some more changes with luck this time.
I enabled Cornering lights and Hill control assist successfully!

Cornering lights is at Centr.Electr.
Hill control assist on ABS module.
So I know the modules are working. Just for some reason not everything is available.

Cornering lights and Hill control assist are more useful anyway!

I will go for Coming/leaving home lights as well when I will buy a repair cable that is needed (as you already know).
And in the future MSFW and Cruise control.

Thanks for all the help @Abi

Best regards

I have enabled with obd 11, very easy and more convenient for minor tweaking then vcds.

Hey!

Do You have the vcds changes for hill control assist please?

Thanks!

I followed the guide here: link
Your ABS module probably going to have different coding so do not use mine.
You only change 2 bits at byte 16 as the guide says.

I attach my coding to see the differences.
Mine was 111000 (38 in Hex) and changed it to 111011 (3B in Hex)

And then you set the adaptation as the guide.
In the adaptation, I found better for me to use value "1". (1 = Hill Hold Control "early" (Start with low RPMs) )

Best regards,
George

Gonna try and activate HHC on mine tomorrow using this guide.

Hi,
I activated this earlier, on ticking the Bit 0 box the binary code changed from 00111000 to 00111001
Do I need to alter it manually to 00111011 ?
The HHC seems to be working ok though.

My mistake binary code was 00111100 and changed to 00111101 long coding changed from 3C to 3D

I changed the bit0 by the check box, and changed the bit1 by hand.
I don’t really know what is needed.
I just followed the guide.

Think I’ll see how it operates for a few weeks before I change anything manually, our binary codes are different anyway,

I did it on my RS6 with carista, really easy with that.

It’s all working fine with vcds coding, just didn’t want to be manually changing binary codes unnecessarily

Hello, did you find solution to this problem? I also want to turn rear lights when I turn the light switch on DRL but I cannot find good solution. My car has same coding like yours and same options.

Hey no I didn’t try it at that time.
Did you try the suggested change with vcds?

No. I did not see any clear option on any of Bytes. On Byte 18 I have seen the warning not to change anything and I did not try there. So, I think there is no clear option to turn on rear lights with DRL lighs.

Better option is to increase the brightness of DRL front lighta when light switch is on parking light position. But for this adaptation I need the security access on this module, and I caould not find corect code to have security access.

If someone has code for security access I would be happy to search solution for this.

I think if you hover over the field where you are supposed to enter it, its gonna show you the code. But from quick research it seems that code for 09-Cent. Elect. is 31347.

I tried to hover over the field and nothing is shown. That works on some other modules, but not on this one.

I will try that code 31347 and report the result.

That is correct, a warning in red is shown. What value is set for Byte 18?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For Byte 18 value that is shown is 29 on my car.

I’m not up on binary code but sure someone on here can say what the next code up is as doubt it’s 30, 28 is one lower.

Byte 18 is not to be touched, so I want do nothing there. Warning is there for a reason.

If there is any other way that someone knows? How to increase brightness of DRL's when parking lights are active, that is one solution...

That’s fine I understand your reservations. But that’s how I did mine.
Good luck

Yes, I understand, but coding is maybe different. Your was not 29 in the beginning? If you can post current coding to compare values?

I am sure there is different way to do it, just it is not found yet. I will try some options tomorrow.

Hey Abi,
HaloPreka said that he has the same code as I have.
Check the screenshot of my post of Jan 21, 2020. I have the drop down menu with their values.

From a google search, "hex 29" is "binary 101001".

I tried this code 31347 for security access and code is not accepted.

Tried some other things I found online to enable tail lights as DRL but without success.

With security access I would be possible to cancel dimming of parking lights and the problem will be solved, but without code nothing can be done. If anyone finds security code for facelift A3 8p, please write it here.

Whats on your Byte 11? For me thats where i can change dimming for parking lights. Mine was set to 10, so DRL's would dim quite a bit when i switched to parking lights. I changed this to 100 and now they stay the same brightness as in DRL position. You lose turn signal DRL dimming tho.

That settings from Byte 11 is on different Byte on my car and I tried that and it is not working. There I can change the dimming of DRL-s but only when in DRL mode, when switching to Parking lights, dimming is still present.
