new to here and looking for advice

older shape 2010 - 2014 , not the newer angular. great looking car, awesome engine and good value for money

spyder or coupe? sypder for noise of the engine. have they got scuttle?
any common issues
do they come with sports exhaust as standard? switchable valves
manual or auto? have heard the R tronic is not a great box and showing age.

thanks

For me the coupe & auto. Cant' really comment about any other points but just to say that my RS6 performance is serviced by a great independent Audi/VW specialist so find a good one & there not stupid money to look after. Don't get me wrong it's not a 1.1 polo but keep a few hundred quid aside & you should be fine.
Would also suggest an aftermarket warranty, i did & the other week saved me just £385.00 when the central locking started playing up.

Thanks- I have read they are not too bad and a lot better n more reliable than a gallardo.

I run a c63 AMG 6.2 estate as a daily and sensible family car and that is not too bad either on servicing and very reliable.

I had a Gt3 for many years and miss a car for high days and holidays which the r8 would be and fancy Sth different as opposed to going straight back to Porsche

Indys are defo the way to go as main dealer is crazy money for ok service

yeah stupid fast and a liability but every mile is a smile. absolutely dreadful on fuel and I checked the MPG once and never looked again. not that we are doing many miles at the moment as a nation!!

first merc I have ever had and it had to be a silver arrow.

i nearly bought a dark cherry red one but when I saw silver in flesh it was done

not much choice. white is too taxi and I would never have a black car again after a porsche 997 daily. pig to keep clean!! silver hides the dirt amazingly.

Ah but you are so close to the best colour of them all...

That's darker again , Palladium silver is the one to go for colour , that Auto Trader estate is missing the AMG seat badges not that I care for their latimus dorsi hugging abilities .

Also the rear 3/4 is horrifically tinted .

Accept nothing but privacy glass...

Looks same colour as OP's car  lovely car by the way.

Keeping this on topic...

so back to the R8 they are all quattro right?

there is a Rear wheel drive one but in the later shape?

Yeah all earlier shape cars are quattro.

The coolant expansion tanks are liable to crack, later cars had an "updated" design which unfortunately didn't fully resolve the issue, not a huge problem so long as it's spotted early else lack of coolant will fry the engine.

Suspension issues are common and expensive especially if it has magnetic ride.

As said in general they're quite reliable provided general service and maintenance is up to date.

Coupe and manual personally.

I, too, am inclined to recommend coupe and auto. They are the most balanced options to buy, in my opinion. But don't forget that the most important thing is the condition in which this four-wheeled beauty will be. I recommend checking the engine and battery immediately, and they are often the problem.

P.S. It's also important to choose a good place to buy it. It's better to get it by hand or from a source you trust so that you have someone to ask if anything happens. See link for details.
