Quick one

Just ordered a new steering wheel from royalsteeringwheels.com.

As it involves my own safety, didn't want to fiddle with coding of other dual-stage airbag for newer wheel.
Couldn't also get straight answer from anywhere, which other wheel with round airbag will fit C6 so decided to refresh my one.
Didn't want go with other users "standard/boring" choice of the TT one.

Flat bottom covered in Charcoal alcantara and sides+top in Black perforated leather will be made for me.

Planning to do the pillars, sun visors and roof liner retrim in Charcoal alcantara (hopefully at some point) so the wheel will nicely complement it.

ETA first or second week of March.
Cannot wait

Something like that.

Think, price £220 is reasonable.
Quality of their work is great, according to reviews and other forum members.

I've chosen the materials, stitching and replacement wheel option @ £100 deposit.
£9.99 recorded shipping.
Total was £329.99 but will get deposit back, soon as I replace the wheel and send it back to them.

You can also have them install it for you.

They need to get the same wheel you have in order to customise it first and your oem one will be their stock to use again.

I've ordered slightly thicker version than oem one and with deeper thumb grips.

Thinking, if the airbag cover can be taken off.
Would strip it off the chrome bits and painted gloss black middle part, same as I have the clocks trim.
With chromes back on, it would all complement together

Steering wheel arrived yesterday.

Feel is wicked.
Work is perfect, thumbs grips and whole thickness excellent.
Alcantara on flat bottom looks and feels superb.

All in all, I would be happy with it but ... stitchings on the sides with top and sides with flat bottom are not as I wanted.

Currently awaiting their reply on the issue but I will not accept it.

I am picky and anal about them little things

Once resolved, I will do separate thread for steering wheel swap.

Stripped down centre console last night to prep it for Black Gloss spray job.

All taken down to pieces and will be sanded down soon.

Little rear cigarette lighter surround, from underneath rear centre vents is also going to be sprayed in Gloss Black for that little accent.

Also, front cupholder with cigarette lighter have been completely dismantled for Red led bottom cup holder lights.
Will be using same 50/50 leds that I have used on door handles, centre arm rest and front ashtray.
Want to DIY lenses out of square plexi rod with leds behind them and hook it up to ambient light for adjustment from MMI.
Will work on that slowly

Hahha.
Same here, mate.
They left the badge for some strange reason.
I meant to transfer entire electronics to the new wheel but wasn't expecting badge transfer.

So far, they haven't responded to my email so either they trying to cover their rears or don't know.
Worst case scenario, I can always dispute the transaction on PayPal so the moneys will be withdrawn from their account.

Hey Kris, I like the look of the new wheel, what exactly did they do which was different to the spec you ordered? did you not order a flat bottom wheel?
is a bit of an odd one that they left the s3 badge in the bottom of the old one.

cheers

I like the way wheel look and feel, don't get me wrong but I know what I've asked for and what has not been done.

I wanted wheel to have seems like marked on attached picture and in the places I marked.
Alcantara on the wheel should be only a complementary to the leather, not to take 1/4 of the circumference space.
Tbh, thought flat bottom bit will be closer to the airbag and make that third spoke shorter. Now it makes the wheel more oblong, imho.

Anyway, royal steering wheels finally accepted their mistake and are redoing it to my expectation.
I've been called and emailed and tried to accept it, only for them not to loose out on the labour and costs.
They should start today as it reached them today.

They also doing a gear gaitor form me.
I've sent it with the wheel back and We have agreed for it to be done in Alcantara also, with red stitching. That was prior to the malarky above and they were still happy to do it. Additional cost on it.
No discounts, no nothing. I haven't even asked for anything as a loss in install time, to be fair to both parties but still nothing has been offered.

I should expect it all back in about 3 weeks.

Got the replacement front crash beam in and prepped it with primer, sprayed Black and finished off with clear lacquer.

Mine is bent and need replacing.

Complementary of a8parts eBay seller. Recommended 2nd hand parts source.

It will go in soon as I have to reinstall air horn, that is still not working

After a couple if coats of clear lacquer, I got a orange peel so had to sand it down with wet 2k paper and lay another coat of clear.
That didn't helped
Gently machine polished it all up. Results were much better and noticeable in reflection.
Left side not polished vs right hand side polished.

All done now

Bits assembled

Now, finishing up centre console cup holder lit bottom, MMI install and back in the car.

Upgrading wiring with quick connectors for all extra leds I did in front ashtray, new cup holder and front armrest.
Had to cut all the cables for disassembly.

Another one ticked off for me.

Fitted that custom steering wheel I got the other day.

Didn't drove it yet and esp light came on for some reason.
Spoke to a mate who is doing diagnostics and advised that, it will be a steering angle sensor. Just need to full lock the wheel twice to each side, while engine is running and it should go after few seconds of driving.
Will try it soon, as not going out now.

Will stick a new wheel replacement thread link here.
It was quick and easy mod. 15-20 minutes took.

Love the feel if it so far

Alcantara gear gaitor due to be fitted to finish off that nice matching set

Another thing in my car that was driving my OCD mad is small spot in led backlight of MEDIA button on MMI.

It isn't the led itself as it light up but something stuck in there, I thought.

As have the whole centre console apart, split open the MMI to check it out. Only 4 x T20 screws so hey ... .
Unfortunately, it is the led lens that is attached to the actual button looks like is moisten on the connection of both and makes optical illusion to me of something stuck in there.

Whole strips of buttons are held by little plastic tabs and by springy metal bit.
Decided to leave it and not to remove it as if I bend the metals springs, I won't be able to straighten it back up.
Not fancy buying new MMI althaugh, I don't mind silver buttons, like RS6 C6 have.
Just need to put back my centre console in, which is now painted gloss black and those silver buttons would've looked wicked.

On another note, glad I opened up the MMI as inside was just filthy.
Quick blast with brush got all the dirt, moisture and God knows what else, out of it.
I have peace of mind now and slightly less twitching ocd.

Managed to finally sort out wiring on the air horn switch.

I have wrongly connected two wires to the switch and air horn didn't get any power before.
Now all done and I can easily change between the regular beep and air horn.

Shame I have stripped off majority of bits in both footwells to trace eventual wiring problem and spent hours for that in total.
Added power to the light in the switch so it lits up with ambient light.

Anywho, got another air horn as thought, one isn't enough so will be adding that in soon.
Pictures to follow ...

Finally got round to finish up centre console cup holder.

Wanted to illuminate it somehow so have custom made led lenses and lit it up with red leds hooked up to cigarette lighter voltage.
Cup holder had plastic cut out between spring bottle holders and acrylic lenses bend to shape inserted. All glued up and 3 sections of 3x5050 RED leds stuck behind. Covered with cloth Tessa tape to hide away all cabling.

Power harness made to those leds and "magic" switch under armrest.

All above made in accordance with sprayed Audi Gloss Phantom Black centre console, to match last year sprayed dash trim.

Few gentle touches also added:
Rear cigarette lighter holding plastic also sprayed same as centre console, fitted newly custom made Alcantara gear gaitor with red stitching to match recently fitted custom steering wheel with Alcantara accent.

That's done so off to next mods

Got the upgraded red warning door lights.

Tested various led bulbs in there and they either a re rubbish or go off in few months.
These in rear doors are there for about 2years so not bad bit not as bright as new ones, fitted on front doors.

Got the same ones in all foot wells and on inside of tailgate.
Brilliant and strong lite.

Thinking of ditching the logo projector puddles for them white lights
Projectors gone off and are not clear as much as when new and don't fancy to fork out £100 for pair of oem ones. Just cannot justify that cost as can use it elsewhere.

Got to do the "Covid caliper painting", like loads of people did.
Came out nice, must say.

3 Coats of K2 Black gloss caliper paint finished it off nicely. All prepped properly with wire brush and brake cleaner.

Done the calipers, dust covers with disc edges and hubs.

Small audi ring decals added also.

Now alloys need attention

Thank you.

Not sure which ones you have but I have 125kw-170bh. Well, now I got in a region of 200 ish bhp, after remap.

Thinking of bigger discs front & rear.
That would require bigger caliper carriers from 2.7 or 3.0 and I can upgrade fronts from 321 to 347mm.
Rears planning to do with vented discs and also larger.
That is when the time comes.
Maybe dimpled or crossed-drilled, with better pads for sure.

Got the 4mm A4 clear sheet of acrylic, cut strips of it in the width of cupholder wall thickness. Heated them up in the oven in 200degC for about 3minutes.
Had a glass shaped same as needed and once acrylic heated, I've pressed it over the shape for few seconds.
Cooled it in the fridge, filed to perfect size and glued it in.
Leds glued at the back of it and covered with tessa tape but you could use those silver tapes also, to reflect light more.

Leds are connected to front ashtray light, which comes on with all ambient light.
You could wire it to any ignition switched power source or fuse.

Thought of tapping in to front footwell lights so it will be adjustable from MMI with all ambient. Think I will do that next time around there as it is a bit too bright at night and I end up closing the cup holder.

Still working progress but it comes up good.
Window switches replacement for chrome tip ones.
Oem ones gone out and new ones came on the Audi board.

Driver door with main unit done. Now, on to the rest.

But before that is back on the door, thinking of speakers upgrade
Bass/sub is 165mm and mid's are 100mm. Not sure though, if there is a point, without amp+crossovers upgrade also.

Also, while I'm there, internal door handle led light upgrade I did while back, thinking of connecting to ambient lighting for control from MMI.
And, still cannot decide to add door pocket lights or not? Don't want the door skin to look like Christmas tree.

Finally got round to install replacement front slam bar.
Struggled a bit with removal of the old one, as it was bent but eventually it gave way.
Installed new bumper height adjustment plastic bit as one was completely smashed.

On top of that,
fitted second air horn beneath the bar.
Now, got a DOUBLE BLAST, if someone deserve it. LOL
Both compressors hidden behind the bar and both hooked up to the switch under the armrest.
Will take a video of the sound soon

Had to cut out quite a bit plastic grille/bumper support to fit the top horn, as previously was at different position on the bent bar.

Grille ring badge have been removed as chrome one is on its way to replace it.
Same for the rubber bottom splitter. New one on the way

Last night managed to hook up centre console cup holder lights to driver foot well lights in order to control light output from MMI.
It turned out that, constant full power is well too bright and it would be better as ambient light.

Created separate link for the problem I had yesterday when after connection and cable run to foot well, light came on but again full power. None responsive to mmi adjustment, nor the other ambient lights.
Thought of a s/w or f/w glitch but it turned out, I had driver door open and ambient light adjustment on mmi is only available with all doors shut. DUUUHHH.

That sorted so I pulled cables through driver doors hinge gland from the door to the car for boot release button.
Plan is to add it on in the wall of door card pocket, by the sub speaker, so I don't need to switch the engine off+pull the key out of ignition and press boor release button, from inside of the car to "pop the boot open".
New springs are on order.
Cables from the tailgate had already made some time ago and they are already in the boot, pass tailgate hinges.
This will all tie up with headliner removal/replacement (another project with it's aown thread, to be made) as wires will be run in there.

With door cards still not fully bolted when replaced window buttons, speakers replacement is considered but looking around for the right ones.
Bass is pretty straightforward but mid ramge tones looks bit more complex in size to get in but not giving up and research continues.

tbc ...

Time of the year has came and done part service::
Fuel filter + cabin filter replaced with treatment of K2 A/C cleaner and interior cleaning bomb.
Nice fresh air inside and no bad odours. Not that there were any

Oil and oil filter change Monday but that would be done in the garage as wanted to keep the stamps in the service book.
Only 10k miles done since last one and that includes about 2.5k round trip to Poland

I've added today also wing mirrors rain/water repellent stickers. Got them from Aliexpress for peanuts and don't expect miracles but if any good, will shout out

New puddle led projectors picked up @ bargain prices.
One set collected for a tenner and other one for £35 incl. shipping. Deal of a lifetime.
Missus is happy every time when she pick up a new handbag with 30% discount. Ha! Beat that!

Both pairs as second hand but works damn good, like new.

Had to adapt connections but managed to do it without damaging original loom and connectors by making custom adaptors.

Sooo bright at night and well visible during the day.
China ones I had originally were dull even from a start and went green with loss of focus after about 4-5 months.
Lets see how long they will go for.

FYI, he had to reduce the power of a map as clutch was slipping and didn't want to wear it off too quickly. Well ... been about 4 years on it and it did survived just about.
Now, I do feel like it does need that extra ooomph.

How about hybrid turbo and additional intercooler with stage 2
Cannot get much out of 2.0 TDI, right?

Took the end part of the exhaust off to see if any better throttle response will be there. Well, I only disconnected it before the resonators.
Don't know if it was exhaust gasses blowing into the pipe and making that horrible tractor sound but it was awfully loud. Not much improvement on throttle response either. Connected it back as it was.
Think I can safely say and cross off back box delete from my to-do list
