Question regarding auto box issue

Hello all,

my friend is selling his 2002 1.9 tdi and has the auto 5 speed fitted.

im looking to buy it from him but he says the box is stuck in 4th gear when put into drive, so today i went an scanned the car to see what the issue is and the only fault code i could get was
01315 - Transmission Control Module: No Communications

any ideas on what this could be as if its an easy fix i will buy the car from him.
