Quattro System?

I may have missed it, but how does the Quattro system on my my S3 work?
is it perm 4 wd? what ratio is the power split to the wheels etc?

I know i should know this!!

Non permanent 4 wheel drive. Normally front wheel drive, electronically controlled Haldex clutch diverts power to rear wheels if it detects front wheel spin.
