Wondering if my Quattro system has gone. Pulling hard off a round about, had a sudden but short dip in power. Power came
Back straight away but now getting wheel spin when putting my foot down in first gear where never have before.

No lights have come up at all. Car is 2010 S3 3 door

You need to get the car scanned with vagcom.. haldex faults don't put a light on the dash.

Common problems include blocked haldex filter causing the pump to run dry and burning out (Ive had this).
Water getting into the haldex controller causing corrosion on the PCB

Neither of those sound particularly cheap to fix. The car is under private warranty but they'll probably claim that 4WD systems are exempt or it was wear and tear or something.
It's amazing how I didn't realise how much I used the haldex system until you try accelerating without it

I had a TT TDI and noticed instantly when the haldex stops working. You don't realise how good it is until its broke.

The new pump, oil and filter was around £300ish fitted so not to bad.
Before you worry get the car scanned and we can help you find a soloution. Where you from? Check if there are local members than can scan the car for you

I've recently experienced this front wheel spinning myself. Thought initially was because i had pulled away from start in sport mode but sounds as though would be a good idea to get it checked out

Ah well that's not so bad then. I live in Winchester, work in Southampton. Could perhaps get some features unlocked at the same time

Audi say the Haldex does not have a filter, it's not in the service schedule and its not in the parts list ?

If you have loss of power. Could be a separate issue with the Diverter Valve. They often need upgrading as well as getting the Haldex pump/oil/filter.
Although you didn't mention if this loss of power is something you are still experiencing

Welcome to the skillful drivers world where remapping tire and suspension choice is critical in how to outrun a heavy quattro or S3 in the rain.

Sorry, power drop was resolved about a second later, it just massively bogged for a second right before the wheel spin.

I bought a new pump, oil and filter all getting changed this weekend. Pointless having the Quattro if those parts are not functioning well. I figured it probably won't need looking at again if I change the oil after another 20k miles.

No mate I wouldn't go there. I'm going to a place called The Phirm in Surrey. I want the car in good shape as I'm getting a stage 2 tune next month at AMD in Essex

Hi there! I've got an Audi S3 2010 and currently have a similar problem. Although i'm not losing power (like mentioned above, this could be the DV), I'm just getting the tyre slip when i put my foot down. This was diagnosed as a faulty Haldex pump. I've already had to replace this about 3 years ago when I first bought it. I don't rag the car by any means so I guess I've just been unlucky. You don't realise how good that Haldex pump is until its not working! :sadlike:

But anyway...I'm having the Haldex pump replaced at Audi, £432 fitted (book in for Friday). Audi offer a 2 year guarantee on this part as well but not sure on the small print of this warrenty. Knowing my luck it'll never go within the 2 years anyway! I've also looked into Vagtech Milton Keynes for a quote as I hear they are good...waiting to hear back on that.

That's a very reasonable price for that really. Although I heard the reason the pump fails is due to over working if the oil/filter wasn't changed regularly. So I would make sure they check that at the same time.

If your pump is going so often maybe theres an electrical fault? The pump may have a surge the resistor might not be working properly, worth seeing if the electrical connections to the pump are not the reason that the pump keeps getting blown. Can they do a test?

I'm certainly not an expert but passing on my logical knowledge

That's not a bad price. I've just spoken to Southampton Audi. The chap doesn't know what haldex is and so quoted me £1400 to replace the whole system. Stated there is no haldex pump though there is a repair set you can buy for £250. THen got quoted £390 for labour.

What was the part number do you know of the formal name for the service?
Not impressed I had to speak to parts and servicing separately and add the costs together

Mate at this point I'd speak to this guy:

https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/contact-details/

He seemed very sound to me obviously he wants to sell the parts cos that's his job but I considered his knowledge and advice very trustworthy and honest and it helps to understand what the issue could be. Best to find a garage that has done this a few times. It's not a major job but worth doing properly.

****** hell that sounds like a whole lot of stuff you want to avoid. Sounds like they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about so my advise would be to avoid them like the plague! I'd recommend getting a quote from your local VAG specialist, at least then you know roughly what you're dealing with. The hard part is to find one that's reliable to do the work. I've called up 2 recommended ones in my area for quotes and they were all familiar with the Haldex pump. Waiting back on prices from them, I can post on here when i do if you want. I think i remember around the £370 for the first time i had it replaced at a specialist but don't quote me on that.

Not sure on part number i'm afraid but i'll update this if i can find the receipt for my first replacement.
I'm not sure of any formal name for the service other than just replacing the Haldex pump on your car. Its not as complex as your local Audi seem to be making it.

Thanks for all of your help guys.
I've got the code -v181 haldex clutch pump. Presume this is likely a new pump then? Had the code reset but haven't tried getting the haldex to work yet

There might be repair options but whether it'll be cost effective i'm not sure. Both times I've had this issue its been a new pump which has resolved it.

Is it the pre-charge pump? Still struggling with Audi knowing exactly what to do. Of course they now want to bring it in for a full diagnostic check themselves. becoming a bit of a pain now

I bought one the other day I have it at home can send you a pic or serial number tomorrow

Of course they do, that'll leave you £70 down and by the sounds of it they won't help at all.
Have you had the car scanned at all?...some VAG specialist might do it for free. Or do you know anyone with the correct lead/software that could scan it for you?
Surprised to hear you local VAG specialist hasn't heard of it either! Hope Steve (see pm) can answer your questions.
Let us know how you get on bud.

They want £92 for diagnostic despite the next local Audi asking for £60 and they cannot give a reason for the discrepancy.

Well there's a plot twist. Had it read last night and reset the fault code. Seems to be working again today...
think I'll still get the oil and filter done to be sure

Think mine charges £60 as well. £92 is a rip off, your local Audi are terrible mate!

Glad to hear it's back on all 4s! Hope it lasts bud

Awesome thank you. I'll try and attach the pic of the VCDS report as they wanted to know the specific error but I've never used it before

Sorry but that is very expensive for fitting a haldex pump. You can buy a genuine pump new for about £200 ( i did). Oil is £20. Fitting takes 10 mins.
Hell of a mark up on labour that!!! As my part was geniune and fit in a garage (£20 cash) I got an invoice and keep the 2 year part warranty.

I got my mate at his garage to fit mine although u could do it on a driveway just not a lot of room although I did change the filter and oil recently myself just by jacking car up.

Yeh it's pricey but Audi always are. Better than the £1700 I got quoted...

So today I tested out the haldex in the rain and all 4 wheels driving (as far as I'm aware) so hopefully it was an isolated incident
