Hi bought some Q7 wheels with tyres to put on my Q5 went to fit the front ones and the tyre hits one of the top suspension arms.

Wheel size is 9.0J 20” E T 33

But tyres are 285 45 20

If I reduce tyres to 255 45 20 will these fit ok ?

You'll gain 15mm clearance.

Do you have any idea of the interference with the 285/45s?

STD SQ5 20" is: 8.5J x ET33 with the same 255/45 - so you'll be looking at 6mm less than STD, ish...

Not sure what you mean but exactly?

Consider:

Rim width

Consider a 285/45 on a 9J rim:
The rim width 'A' is 9-inches or 228.6mm
Your stated ET 'B' is 33mm
The fitted width (overall face to face)of a 285/45 tyre on a 9J rim is 296mm (fitted tyre dimensions now referenced) and half of that is 148mm
Subtract the ET @ 33mm and the inside face of the tyre 'D' is 115mm from the hub
And as you say yours fouls

Now consider the alternative 255/45 on a 9J rim:
The same rim width of 228.6mm
The same ET at 33mm
The fitted width (overall face to face) of a 255/45 on a 9J rim is 270mm and half of that is 135mm
Subtract the ET @ 33mm and the inside face of the tyre 'D' is 102mm from the hub

So a 245/45 tyre will provide a 13mm reduction/added clearance (115mm - 102mm) over your current set-up

Hope this helps...

I was told the Q7 wheels won't fit on the Q5?.

I've no idea, RS3 S; not inclined to try anything Q7, more than happy with the SQ5 winter and/or summer rims/tyres I already have...

SQ5 wheels

Out of curiosity (and to reassure myself that I'm not going senile!) I did a bit of googling!!

Q5 wheel PCD (pitch circle diameter) or stud pattern is 112mm, Q7 is 130mm so standard Q7 wheels shouldn't fit a standard Q5 hub.

Doesn't really matter though as happily yours do fit :) - and I'm still sane(ish).

Looks like the PDC changed from about 2017, earlier cars 2007 - 2016 were 130, newer ones are 112:thumbs up:

As fitted to another member's Q5 and I'm sure with 255/45's but I have to check:

Q5 on Q7 wheels

What is the part number of your rim, LordyQ5?

Not sure can look later but look the same as yours

Thanks; let me know and I'll check with the owner his tyre size; I'm confident my tyre clearance calculations will be ok for you but best to double check with 'this' owner.

Well the spacing on my Q7 wheels are the same as my Q5 wheels

........mine was a 2018 model & when i enquired about the SQ 7 wheels iwas told the bolt pattern is different so they would not fit?.

As Pointed out by 45bvtc, I had the same problem when I fitted Q7 rims onto the Q5. I went with 245/45/20 as the sizing was the best I could get against the original 235/55/19. They have been absolutely spot on not needing any spacers or anything.
