I've just recently bought an A4 1.8 Cabriolet and within 2 months the PRNDS lights have started to flash! I have read lots of threads and had the car to a garage and they said, the gearbox needs replacing! However, when you read some threads there are some DIY small tasks that you can do! The gearbox oil has been changed when I had the car serviced! The car has done 109,000 miles!

Just recently the lights still flash and the car will not select any gear, the car also revs strange and I can't select any gear! After some time of re-starting and some crunches, the car will go! However, I've stopped doing this to further damage the car!

The worst thing is, I have travelled to Spain and finding a second hand gearbox if that's what I need is a nightmare!

My questions are and if anyone can help , I will be very very grateful and if you're in Spain then the beers are on me!

Should I get ripped off and go to the Audi specialist garage to have the flashing lights sorted?

What DIY jobs can I do to help the situation?

Where if needed can anyone suggest in Europe a place to find a gearbox?

Could it be the ECU?

I've read through many threads and I'm all lost at sea!

Please help!

Search for Alex, of Avonmouth in Bristol. He's a polish guy that specialise's in these gearboxes. Audi Belfast were looking 3.5k to replace mine last September. I took the ferry over to Liverpool and drove to Bristol in October. Alex sorted the gearbox in a day. I only needed a new hydraluic unit but audi dont really have 'specialists' that can strip down these gearboxes and find out what is wrong... they can only fit the full new unit hence the full price. Alex and his helpers on the other hand will replace the gearbox only if its needed and last year the worst case scenario was £995 for a recon fitted. In the end I paid £550... he'll replace the ecu etc too if that's all needed. Ring him for more info see this ebay link for his services and search online for references he is a very good/honest chap working from his home. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a2b93c607
