PRNDS flashing - help

Hi All,

Recently the display on the dash where it shows which gear the car is in has started flashing. This only happened a couple of times over the last week but was still driving fine until this morning when I lost power whilst reversing - after turning off and back on power came back and all was fine.
Occasionally when pulling off from a stationary position the car jumps - doesn't latch into gear immediately (Ill get some revs but no power) then after a couple of seconds it will jump into first.

I've read a couple of similar threads talking about gearbox ECU issues but this was on older models. I've booked in it at a gearbox specialist next week but was just wondering if anyone can share some experiences/give me any advice on what it is it might be?

Any help would be appreciated.

(car is a 2010 Audi A3 1.4 TFSI)

I read about this and questioned it with Audi, and when I rang up the answer i got was "it's a sealed unit, the gearbox doesn't need an oil or filter change it should last a lifetime".

However I'm sure there was a recall around 38000 miles where the gearbox oil was changed but not sure about the filters (I'm at 55000 now).

Do you think it's worth checking?

there's a worldwide recall on the 7 speed s tronics on the 1.4tfsi, on my previous car i had it replaced for free.
good luck with that

Failing that, see if you can get your unit repaired - normally much cheaper than a replacement and comes with warranty, so worth considering.

Do you have any literature to back this up by any chance? A webpage or anything?

I am aware of the recall a couple of years ago whereby Audi changed the synthetic gearbox oil to mineral as there was links this could lead to loss of power. The oil in my car was changed at the time.. would I have a case for a replacement mechatronics unit from Audi because of this?

Summary
VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2008 AND AUGUST 2009. THE WIRING HARNESS OF A TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) MAY HAVE CONNECTOR WIRES THAT WERE INSUFFICIENTLY CRIMPED. WITH INSUFFICIENTLY CRIMPED CONNECTOR WIRES, A TEMPERATURE SENSOR HAS THE POTENTIAL TO FALSELY DETECT A HIGH GEARBOX OIL TEMPERATURE, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO ABRUPTLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SELECTOR LEVER POSITION INDICATOR WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL FLASH. IN ADDITION, THE "DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL" INDICATOR LIGHT WILL BE ILLUMINATED, ALERTING THE DRIVER TO APPLY THE BRAKES.

Consequence
THE ABRUPT SHIFT TO NEUTRAL COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

What Owners Should Do
VOLKSWAGEN WILL REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 20, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

Just in case anyone was wondering, a faulty oil pump & acceptor lead to an oil leak which caused my gearbox issues/loss of power.

An expensive fix but thankfully not as expensive as a failed Mechatonic unit.
