....humm, i think it was a combination of a heavy right foot & thrashing it from day one.... (i've grown out of doing that now!!).... oh, and i think the car was a bit of a lemon if i'm honest..... you know when you just get 'one of those cars'.... the shopping list of replacement parts was amazing!... numbers escape me now but it was something like (in a 10 month period)... 3 engines, new gearbox, 14 (YES 14!) replacement clutches, internal rewire, and god knows what else!!.... i've got the service department printout at home somewhere, the total work/parts that went into VW was in excess of £100k!! the service manager loved me!!.... i think my car paid for their xmas party!... wasn't funny at the time, vw did a number on me & screwed me out of about £5k.... swore i'd never buy another car from the group but i liked the S3 so decided sod it, i'll swallow my pride!... and to this point, i'm glad i did!!

Last: VW Polo 9N3
Now: Audi A3 8P 1.9L
Next: Audi S3

Last - A3 sportback 2.0tdi (140) DSG S-line
Current - Alpina BMW D3
Next - A few variables.

1/ Cars are becoming less and less important to me
2/ Traffic is a joke, so what's the point of performance?

I will go one of two ways.
I'll either jack in fancy motors, get something mainstream and enjoy the extra money or I'll stick with a 'fancy' motor and get a fully loaded version, but with the lowest power/most efficient engine.
Maybe something like a well-spec'd 318D touring.
143bhp is more than enough, the way the roads are going.:banghead:

Last Car: Black Vauxhall Corsa Active

Current Car: Lava Grey Audi a3

Next: Audi A3T FSI S-Line (200):) Or If I Can Afford Insurance S3:s3addict:

Some of the cars being mentioned are funny.
Seriously, if I can rarely find a quiet enough road to enjoy 200bhp in the Highlands of Scotland, how can you lot find the space to enjoy Porsches and S3's?

England is officially the most crowded country in Europe, now.
One of the most crowded in the world.
Its population is estimated to grow by 20 million by 2020.
You'll be lucky to get anywhere in anything, never mind enjoy it!:bye:

God I feel like driving off the white cliffs of dover!

I manage to get out for a good drive in my car plenty of times and I live in London. You sure it's not because you're no longer going for a drive for the sake of it!
The roads are there, you just have to dind them, or chose to go out at the right time!

It's a good point.
I never have, and never will, go for a drive in a car for the sake of it.
Cars, to me, are transport.
Only to be used when I need to go somewhere/do something.
I may have some fun in the process, but fun is never the sole aim of the journey.
My motorbike is the opposite, it only gets used for fun, never transport.

You're not looking hard enough then! Or at the wrong times!!

I know some fab bike roads (I don't ride myself though!) around the North York Moors!
You must be about the nly person on here that doesn't jump in there car to just go for a drive for the sake of it... :search:

As I said, you're probably right.
I'm willing to get up at 6am to enjoy a fast ride on the bike.
I'm not willing to do that for a drive in a car.
I've answered my own question there, really.
Bikes are worth the effort, cars aren't.
IMO, of course.

Last: Subaru WRX (lightly modified !!)
Current : Audi S3 8p & Range Rover Vogue LSE with LPG conversion
Next : Lexus RX400h ?? or used Porsche Cayenne with LPG conversion

You're probably right.
I've seen people mention they've done it before, I never understand why.
No need to pity me though, I have a motorbike.
Now that's an excuse for a pointless journey!:beerchug:

Last: Skoda Fabia TDI
Current: S3 (8L)
Next: Perhaps an 8P S3

I'm green with envy - but that is going to be a hard choice dude!

Yep, it will be hard to decide Jamie. Depends on a few factors too, with regards to money and houses etc. Anyway, My S3 doesn't get delivered 'til next week so I have 24 months to decide...Maybe ;)

Last: Jaguar X Type 2.2d Est Sport
Now: A3 8P Sportback 2.0 TDI S-line Quattro
Next: A6 Est 3.0 TDI or X Type Est Face Lift

Bowfer this isn't a thread about wether gain enjoyment from driving a car or not :)

Cheers

Yeah yeah yeah, you use your S3 power all the time...
Sure you do...:lmfao:

You dont need to drive flat out everwhere to justify having an S3 on the drive, or any other performance car for that matter.

Ask any performance car driver/owner/enthusiast and they will tell you the same.
But Im sure you already know that.

Before: Golf Mk5
Now: Audi A3 8P
Next: New Model 2011 Audi A3 (probably a remapped 1.8TFSi Quattro due to the astronomical fuel prices and taxes on anything above 2.0 litres in Turkey and the God awful road conditions during the winter.)
