Stumbled across a bit of an issue with my power folding mirror retrofit.
I have fitted the passenger one and that is coded and working fine.
The issue is on the drivers side, I gambled and purchased a three door power fold mirror for a bargain price, the pinouts in the plug are different to the five door. I have copied the standard pins from my mirror so I’ve got the indicator, heat and adjustment sorted.

Can anyone advise the folding mirrors pin outs in the plug or a wiring diagram.

Thank you.

That's what I took note when I was retrofitting folding mirrors on my A3:

16 pin connector:
1 - Not Connected
2 - Anti-dazzle
3 - Earth connection (for indicator and heating)
4 - Glass position memory
5 - Adjustment motor (common)
6 -Anti-dazzle
7 - Adjustment motor
8 - Adjustment motor
9 - Folding motor
10 - Folding motor
11 - Indicator light
12 - Not Connected
13 - Glass position memory
14 - Glass position memory
15 - Glass heating
16 - Glass position memory

(Memory motors are usually present only on passenger side. Anti-dazzling mirror glass, when present, usually only on driver's side)

Is that different from yours?

That’s great, thanks. Yes they were different but I’ve got the six pins now right for heat, Earth, indicator and glass adjust.

I now have four wires outstanding and need to now know which colour wires correspond to the pins above for folding.

Mine were:
9 - Blue
10 - Pink

Lovely job, thanks. Why is a powerfold mirror connector ten pin when only eight are used?

Sometimes the mirror has the wiring for the anti-dazzling mirror glass (pins 2 and 6) even though there is none. In this case, the unused connector for the glass is "plugged" into a plastic slot inside the mirror housing. Maybe your mirror is like that.

Ok now I understand, I can’t remember seeing another plug in the mirror body. Hopefully I’ll get the important bit working!

Thanks again for your help.

Just had a look at my wiring again, I have twelve wires on the mirror harness! As can be seen I’ve got the basic mirror functions in to the correct numbers on the plug.

So should be pink and blue to the corresponding numbers now. That leaves me with four cables surplus!

Looks like a passenger mirror wiring. There surplus wires are connected to the memory in the adjustment motor. I should have posted the connections list complete with the wire colors (my fault) but here they are.

1 - Not Connected
2 - black/brown or black/white - Anti-dazzle
3 - black/blue - Earth connection (for indicator and heating)
4 - grey/white - Glass position memory
5 - brown/white - Adjustment motor (common)
6 -black - Anti-dazzle
7 - white - Adjustment motor
8 - red - Adjustment motor
9 - blue - Folding motor
10 - pink - Folding motor
11 - yellow - Indicator light
12 - Not Connected
13 - blue/purple - Glass position memory
14 - white/yellow - Glass position memory
15 - brown/black - Glass heating
16 - grey/yellow - Glass position memory

good luck

As I suspected, the mirror was from Poland but stated it was a RHD vehicle it was removed from. The part number sticker has been removed so I can’t check.
I might as well try and code it for drivers side reverse dip too!
That’s if the powerfold function works! Failing that it will be getting returned.
Was worth the gamble at £45

If it's a LHD mirror it's not suitable for a RHD car, since the mirror housings on the A3 are angled differently for LHD and RHD cars. Some cars have symmetrical mirrors and the different angles for the driver sitting on the left side or right side are obtained by adjusting the mirror glasses, but it's not the case with the A3, which has asymmetrical mirrors. The glass adjustment range is not wide enough to compensate the mirror housing angle. Also, there are differences in the electrical signals sent to the mirrors (I've experimented with coding on the door electronics module some time ago and changing the flag "RHD" and my mirror had the fold/unfold commands reversed, Y and X axis adjustment for the glass inverted, etc).

You may check if it's the right part for your car by measuring the distance from the outer end of the mirror to the door surface and comparing to your original mirrors. Passenger side mirror tip is closer to the door than driver side.

100% confirmed it is a LHD mirror. Sitting in the drivers seat the glass does not adjust outwards far enough.

What mirrors will fit? Will a normal -A3 or RS3 be the same as S3 as im interested in retrofitting powerfolding mirrors to my car.

Good question. It seems that the part numbers for all models are the same but not sure. "8V1857409" for left side and 8V1857410" for right side LHD, prefix changes to 8v2 for RHD cars, but there is also a 8v5 variation that I can't identify how they differ from the 8v1. I'm not a mirror specialist though. Just checking from ETKA.
