I own a 2012 A4 Avant (B8 - 177ps) and have recently got a stage one remap to boost to 210bhp. It's great, I love it, and unsurprisingly I want more...

I realise I need to start upgrading parts to allow the car to cope with further power increases and to be honest, I can't see myself affording much more than stage 2 (in terms of parts, maintenance, insurance etc).

I'm a sensible driver 90% of the time but I like to know I have the power if need it. Just looking to make the maximum difference, with the least amount of alterations to the car, and without damaging what's already in the engine etc.

Would an air/filter induction kit make a huge difference on its own or must you pair it with exhaust upgrades?

Hi.
If you were thinking of more extensive modifications and you needed any help with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan

Previously had an A5 2.0tdi 177bhp with stage 1 map, put a custom twin exit exhaust and pipercross air filter on it, to be honest I didn't feel any difference to just the Stage 1 with stock exhaust and air filter.

The standard air filter is not causing any restriction at those power levels and a larger exhaust won't make that much difference TBH.
Next stage for any meaningful power upgrade would probably be a hybrid turbo.

Good to know. Perhaps not worth the money if the gains are negligible?

Excuse my ignorance, what constitutes a Hybrid Turbo?

A hybrid turbo is a modified standard turbo with a larger compressor wheel and sometimes a larger turbine or modified standard turbine wheel. Easiest way to get more performance most of the time just replace standard turbo and remap.
You have done the easiest and cheapest mod on the car, the remap gives you the best bang for buck performance increase. Anything after that starts to get expensive.
Darkside do upgraded hardware for these. Although personally I wouldn't get a car mapped with them.

Desertstorm, it certainly seems that way. I didn't want to move in that direction truth be told. I may have to bite the bullet and accept that my engine will have to make do for the time being.
Adding parts and extras only means a surge in costs all round.
Good to know that there are companies out there that offer the works should my priorities change.

Classic case of a the law of diminishing returns. You're at the optimum now in terms of cost to results.

Why would you not use them any bad experiences?

Am looking to get my 143bhp mapped would be more than happy with power you have best I will see is 185 190 bhp

I started with 177 and got 210. I definitely feel the difference going up 33bhp but if you start at 143 and go to (even the lower figure) of 185, the 42bhp jump will feel nuts!

Were you get your car remapped ?

Has your car had emissions recall.

I live in Brighton and got it done at a place called Phantom Tuning... Although it may be an extension of Quantum Tuning; a franchised business that has locations dotted all over the UK.

I only bought the car a few months back so am unsure whether there was a recall for this particular model/year. I'll have to get in touch with Audi to verify.

Would this affect something I'm unaware of?

You can check online see if recall has been done

https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/emissions/check-your-car.html

Heard stories of terrible mpg and egr issues after recall and mpg is even worse after the remap.
My car has had recall done would like to get it reversed before remap if I could tbh .

Hmm, turns out my car has already been recalled. Haven't noticed a reduction in mpg yet, but then I haven't been paying attention to it since it was only done the other week.

Also no rough idling or anything yet but then i guess these things are most likely to develop over time.

Will keep you posted for sure.

As others have mentioned, adding these parts isn't going to make any difference on your car. For the 4 cylinder engines i don't recommend anymore than stage 1, hybrids tend to make them laggy and not nice to drive.

Update: Did notice my having to fill up the car a little more often. Attempted to get the recall 'reversed' back to stock with Phantom tuning as they explained on their website that they could. Gave them my ECU details and they explained that they didn't have the original file for my 2012 B8 model. Scuppered those plans!

Phantom tuning is there anywhere else your aware of that will do this ?
My cars a 2012 b8.5 143bhp 2.0 tdi and been looking for someone to do this.

Whoever you eventually choose for a remap you want a before and after dyno graph with proof of gain etc as there’s too many so called companies out there claiming big gains when all they do is put on a generic map. I certainly wouldn’t write Darkside developments off give them a follow on YouTube their recent videos come across as very honest and true achievable figures depending on supporting mods etc. They specialise in VAG Diesel engines I had an exhaust made on a previous car by them and was very impressed with the quality and overall setup they had. Yeah they maybe expensive but sometimes the saying “buy cheap buy twice” springs to my mind. There’s lots of VAG specialist tuning companies out there so I’d be inclined to speak with a few to get a rough idea and what’s achievable within your budget.

Hi, did you have it mapped on a Dyno? I very very much doubt what they claim is what you have.
I bought a 2015 B8 177 black edition plus. I had it mapped at Superchip on the dyno. The base line was 168hp. I'm guessing the Quattro system reduces the WHP. Either way, I got the percentage claimed increase they advertised but in real world, it's nowhere near where they said in terms of HP.

Also, I was disillusioned with the MPG claims by Audi. I can't get any better than 38mpg irrespective of how I drive it. Before I mapped it, I got 42. So if anyone has any ideas on what to change then let me know. I've already tried everything on VCDS. No luck so far.
