Poor consumption from A6 1.9tdi sport 2003

My brotehr owns a 2003 a6 1.9tdi sport (manual -6 speed).

Lovely car to look at and drive. Has a slight problem though, around town hes getting around 50-55 miles for £10 of diesel. Now I know diesel prices are high and climbing ATM, but that is poor consumption!

The car is standard with no mods, it does have high mileage - around 190k mark but surely that shouldnt affect consumtion so bad!

Anybody have any ideas as to why this might be?

Mines not far from that arround town. Just give the car a good service (all filters including the fuel filter)

Lob some red x in a full tank.
