    Hello there

Im keen on getting a bit more oomph from my car. Its a A6 C6 cr170, ive been looking at a bluefin as I can pay it off monthly (my tuning budget is currently 0!) and is plug and play.

The only thing putting me off are the figures they provide. According to their site I will only get 28 bhp and 59 nm of torque and from what ive read the figures they provide are a bit optimistic

Celtic tuning quote a increase of 57 bhp and 71 nm which is a huge difference.

Are there any other alternative plug and play remap options? Not keen on any of the tuning boxes like dtuk as they are surely just fancy versions of the resistors in a box and im sure any mpg increase shown on the dis will be due to all the sensor trickery.

Ive googled but cant seem to find any bluefin alternatives.

    Cheers

Those plug and play boxes are generic and mass made. They can confuse the engine and ecu.

I would advise you get it remapped to stage 1.
Get rid of dpf and switch off egr with it.
Straight pipe would be beneficial also.

Custom maps are always better options for optimised performance, economy and life.

I agree that the plug and play tuning boxes are **** but the bluefin is a actual remap just that its a generic file on what at the minute is a generic car!

If you have the Dpf off do you have to gut the box? Im actually thinking of leaving it in place, you k ow global warming and all that lot!

I have seen that Celtic do a emotion similar to bluefin, they quote the same bhp and torque figures of having the map applied by them but its £500!!

On further research celtics figures are a load of bs. A few threads mentioned their dyno and power claims to be out by about 25 bhp. If you take that into account when comparing with the bluefin, tge bluefin now doesn't seem like a bad choice at all.

I am selling my Bluefin from my A6 2.0 TDI ultra 190ps. Power increased to 228bhp and torque form 402 to 450nm. Made the car SO much more responsive, and whilst a "custom map" would always acheive more, I thought this worked really well. Would re-use on my new Q5, however SuperChips don't have a map for my 2018 car yet: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273149884835

And as per my other post, I will sell for £200 to forum member

Oh really? Dominic assured me it would be no charge, I have an email to prove as much. Let me call tomorrow, as if this is the case will have to drop price dramatically. Typical! Does work very well to be fair, if you are thinking of getting a new one.

I think the no charge may be for you as you are an existing customer but even then ive spoke to a few people who had to cough up when they got a new car. Sure there is something in their FAQ about it also.

Definately looking to get one at some point and glad to hear you were happy with yours mate

The chap who bought my Bluefin got a new map loaded FOC for his Golf R. Has gone from 296bhp to 354bhp and is chuffed to bits

After a bit of advice, got myself a bluefin handset and mapped the car yesterday. It felt pretty good with a decent power increase, I had only driven my normal route home on 30 roads so couldnt really test it properly.

Took her up the motorway after work and it seems a bit flat after the initial surge when the boost comes in.
I was in 5th gear at about 2500 rpm and put my foot to.the floor and it just seemed so flat, I was expecting it to pull hard to red line.
Gonna give it a few days to settle as I know the fuel trim values etc have to adjust to the new map.

I dont have vcds but do use the torque app and was going to do some boost logs, is there anything else i should be checking before approaching superchips?

    Cheers

That doesn’t sound right. I have read before of people getting manual maps instead of dsg and vice versa. I would email them as they will probably ask you to connect handset and upload

Thanks for the advice mate, gonna do a bit more testing before I contact them. I had just let the Dpf regen before giving it some welly so that could have had an effect I suppose

The bluefin maps are very hit and miss, they are certainly not optimised to the car.

Ideally id have gotten a proper map but this was the only option I could go with because I quote 'its a family car it doesnt need anything doing to it'.

Theyve provided a new file today however im a curious as to what they could of changed. Surely if they developed a map for a particular engine and tested it etc then there should just be the one. Im not the expert though!

How have you got on with the new map? I have heard of replacement files being required, but that was more down to manual/dsg. I had to take my A6 to Superchips, as it had a ecu they didn’t have full read of, but never had any issues, and the chap who bought my bluefin and got map
For his golf r is chuffed to bits as he now has 350bhp

cant really answer this properly. I wish I hadthe opportunity to get a proper map done but for various reasons that was out of the question.

I always have doubts when I cant see numbers to proove the theory and because I havent seen a before and after data sheet youd get from a dyno run im always questioning it.

It definately pulls harder, boost comes in harder than before and to convince myself I reflashed the original the other day and there was a noticable difference. How much that difference would be with a custom map I dont know.

Im planning on getting vcds soon so I can atleast do a range of before and after logs and pretty sure you can get a estimated torque and bhp reading. Not bothered if they are accurate its just to get an idea on how its changed.

Im happy with it like, I may just be craving more power now!

One thing I have noticed is the Dpf needing a clear out more frequently. Not sure if this is down to the extra fuel im now using or would a smokey map do this?

Agree, a custom map would always be better, but for me at the time, the extra grunt I got made a noticeable difference (no hard figures as you say) but flashed back a few times when car went in to Audi, and felt really sluggish. I never had any DPF issues, or smoking for that matter.

I wouldnt expect to see smoke as if there was I would of thought the Dpf isnt doing its job but it does seem to be filling faster. Its been 241 miles since my last regen and im now at 89%.
