Petrol to diesel????????

Is it possible to put a Diesel engine into a petrol car I know its a shed load of work but will it work.

Yeah you can. Like you say, a lot of work and changing of parts but definitely possible

Is there a lot to be done on the wiring side of things, if I was getting a doner engine what elce is needed from the diesel car regard the loom

Yeah it could be possible but you have to change many components of the engine in order to give way for diesel. If you wish to change into diesel because its cheap then you have to consider some changes like in diesel the engine vibration is a bit violent and the sound is a bit loud too.
