Hi there, I actually own a mk1 TT and am on the TT forum, however while some people on there have done this mod not many have and I was told loads of people on here have done it so hopefully you won't mind helping me out if you can :)

The downpipe is a relentless/xs power, I do what I can on cars my self but by all accounts this job is an absolute **** so don't think it's wise to tackle it myself with a halfords socket set and axel stands lol. Due to it been such a bad job I would rather take it to somebody who has done a couple, so has anybody had theirs done anywhere in or near South yorkshire? If so where and how much were you charged?

Thanks in advance for any replies, hope you don't think I'm a cheeky **** coming on here asking for advice when I'm not actually an S3 owner but now I have an account I may come on here more often :)

I no a very good mechanic in bolsover chesterfield he's done all my exhaust/decat work on my previous motors. Renaultsport megane cats are bolted to the turbo and require drive shaft removel and a few other bits. He did mine in half the time any body else quoted.

I'm from rotherham and I go to him when ever I need anything.

Drop subframe, swear lots, do it on the drive.

I've been present in the fitting of a few K04 dp's and thankfully never needed to do the fitting myself.

Phil Miller has it down to a tee.

What's his place called mate ill get in touch with him chezzy not too far at all :)

And I really don't fancy doing it myself mate lol it's my only car that I use daily and I don't have the widest selection of tools in the world either.

im sorry!!
and whats worse is i cant help your actual question!!!

Your too predictable mate !! ;) don't worry I've got the name of someone recommended who's not too far away thanks for the help everyone

Would highly recommend you do not attempt this on axle stands.

I fitted a relentless 3" pipe couple of weeks ago and it isn't a fun job. To make things worse one of the turbo studs snapped, so off came the subframe, rack, driveshaft to allow access. Heated that part of turbo up with oxy acetylene torch and managed to get the stud out with an extractor, luckily had a stud the correct size in the workshop.

This was a ball ache on a 4 point lift and took nearly 4 hours, probably a nightmare on the floor!

3 hours labour time (on a lift) would have been realistic if the stud hadn't snapped.

Sure mate here are a few pics of my slag :)

Not had it that long but started getting into it recently, had a few small problems which have allowed me to get my hands dirty and have spent hour reading up and researching how the 1.8 20V works and have got a pretty good grasp of it now :) if anybody fancy's a butchers I'll leave the link to my build thread on the TT forum although a lot has happened since I last updated it to be honest.

Thanks again for everybodys help and advice and as I said now I have an account I will probably come on here from time to time and help out where I can :)

Hi mate, will be getting a 3" downpipe fitted in next few weeks & have just opted for a local specialist who does VW, Audi, Seat & Skoda. I figured rather a VW group mechanic do it than just an exhaust outfit if they need to strip other bits off car they should be more clued up & have the right parts (seals, bolts etc) if needed.

I paid Pipewerx to fit my downpipe, sports cat and system, £200 and 2 hours later - done. No swearing or ******* about and no knocks or bangs afterwards.

I had considered pipewerx but didn't think they would want to fit a downpipe that wasn't theirs. I'm Booked in at BGK tuning on somebody's reccomendation, they have tuned plenty of high bhp 1.8Ts and he told me he had done loads of these downpipes, told me £150 for it fitting which I was happy with :)

Yes, as I've ordered the Pipewerx downpipe would have got them to do the lot but way to far UP north for me :(

Just thought I'd update this and let people know how I got on. Ended up taking the car to BGK tuning in Leeds. Top set of blokes so massive thanks to them for stopping until turned 7 on Saturday night to get the job done so I could have the car back that day. Apparently this job is even harder and there is even less room on a TT than an S3. Originally the pipe was knocking against the tunnel however a combination of a powerflex dog bone mount and me attacking the heat sheid with a hammer and chisel has reduced this till it's almost not there. Going to see if I can have a play with the downpipe hanger and possibly engine mounts and get it to go away completely but overall I'm very happy with this mod. If you've done one of these on axel stands then a massive congratulations because I don't think I'd physically be able too if I wanted lol.
