This is not unusual. There are lot of hidden 'actions' in most modern cars to reset stuff. I was at Mercedes World being driven in an E63 'very enthusiastically' by a pro, when it lost steering assistance and threw an error up. (fun at 100 mph+, straight up the escape road at the hairpin !).
He calmly drove the car to stop. Turned it off, turned it back on, pressed and held a switch on the dash (cannot remember which one), did left full lock, right lock, centered the wheel, turned if off and back on and all was fine. The pro said they often get such issues when hammering the car all day, and there are different 'combos' for different issues.
