thanks again for your intelligent input ;)

I have owned cars where i have previously fitted K&N's Nat, im not against them by any means..... what i am against is pointless mods that do sod all..... im sure there is lots of info of people on here flagging their impressive results, fact is none have been as conclusive as Ess threes testing day - yes your gona get different results because no engine is the same, but 17bhp? - appreciate what your saying and i take my hat off to alpine for doing such a good job, but the simple fact is that 17bhp from a filter all of a sudden when most people either lose power or at best remain the same...then its a little far fetched.

I have no doubt the airflow has increased through seeing a lot of vagcom tests from the MAF, as alpine knows its the temps where the issues lay after that which is why he has done what he has done..... that said a 17bhp jump for a bay mounted cone is still pie in the sky to a large degree

Alpine - I have no question R tech are great, i have researched them too and most likely getting our map done there, but the simple fact is that tuners will blow smoke up ya *** all day long, JBS told me i had a really strong engine etc etc when they mapped mine, fact is it performs like most others - im a salesman (to a degree) myself and fully understand how the system works, it isnt rocket science mate - i still think you have done a good job - just think 17bhp from what you have done is very optimistic

and please relent with the chav honouring, not being funny but it sounds like a set of washer women justifying their own existence ;)

Will not disagree with you with some of what you have said there Tim but just because ess three didnt see an increase in power or torque on a dyno does not mean its a pointless mod. If you analysis the graph or vagcom you may see that you maybe making peak power higher up in the rpm or for longer through the range, or your boost may start come in earlier. May only be a couple of rpm but the driveabilty of the car has improved.

I got and increase of about 6-9 bhp when I done mine. Ye 17 bhp is rather high for a induction kit but then its goes down to what I said about the tester, not having a dig at you Apline, however the guys in uni had 18 bhp (I think) increase on a Lupo from a K n N which I actually said rubbish but they proved it to me so I say fair enough.

Lol the chav stuff was a joke really. It if funny though how some people go on because they have an AUDI which must be the best. The S3 is a hot hatch which it is not the best at doing in its class, however its a pretty good all rounder.

May not handle as well as a Megane Sport, but we all know which car we would rather be in.

Lol the R26 is an immense car. Not wow fast but it handles so good and you can cover ground in it so easy, thats the surprise. The normal 225 models aint very good in my opinion

yes, the S3 is not a track orientated car. It's a hatch back with a sporty edge. Audi's clientèle are not trackday junkies

no diss taken animal. i was as suprised as you at what vag com threw up. Remembering i have effectivly powerflowed my TB too which would add to the 17bhp increase VAG-COM showed. If im honest, i dont know where it come from, i done another run last night and i got the same results give or take a . or 2!! Im happy im @ 167ish on a standard car dude, just using the old tricks my dad used to do back in the 19 what 80s ect to all those carbbed beasts!! I know the cars of today are miles apart but simple engineering is simple engineering in my book. if you make a hole bigger more airs gonna get in, if you polish the sh!t out of that intake (i.e powerflowing) the air will run smoother/faster giving you more stable airflow etc etc. Using that "old skool" or "dated" method.... which ever you want to call it obviously still seems to work in the days of adaptive ECUs blah blah blah.

Once again peeps, im taking no offence to any negative comments, actually makes a change for people to see that something "unorthadox/against the grain" has been done, and its chucking up good numbers! oh yeh, and the fact i made it all by my chavvy self is a bonus! (that was a sarcastic joke!!) :moa:

Ye your right. I call the S3 a luxury hot hatch. With a few mods I think the S3 will be a very good car.

i think its all down to testing and the reason i always go back to ess threes testing is because he did it all on the same day utilising the same conditions (or as near as damn it)....nobody else has emulated a test like this since, vagcom is great but it isnt an independednt testing device as it utilises the cars existing sensors..... good points and bad points

fact is testing on an RR before and after spreading your runs to acheive an average, your not gonna be too far out.....

i dont think you can compare the S3 to the Megane, totally different era, that said i still whole heartedly think you will not find a better all rounder in its class, even to this day including the 8P against its peers ;)

Well said alpine. How old is the otto engine cycle, YEARS but its still used in every car today and its not even very efficient. Old engineering methods will always be there.

All by your chavvy self mate haha, I love.

i think we all respect each other enough here not to take offence ;)

i personally dont buy the bhp figure on vagcom, its built from a set of calculations rather than physical fact

Tim I agree with you but every one goes on about dyno lottery and stuff on forums. Not just this one. A dyno is the only real accurate way manufactures can get the performance of there cars. It can be very accurate but most tester are rubbish and so now everyone just ignores what ever they get.

Ess threes tests are all very good, fair play to him.

Ye the S3 is a great all rounder.

But thats how stuff are engineered, through calculations and estimates (rather to much estimates) getting a cars performance from VAGCOM is not the best way no. But its the only cheap option to get an idea.

it is the cheaper option but as a direct consequence the data gathered is also to be desired when compared to more expensive methods.....

I am fully aware of the dyno lottery, the upside here is that using the same tester/rollers/conditions will ultimately land you with more comprehensive results than vagcom or alternate runs on different rollers...... to post up that you have this increase is completely flawed unless you have a more robust testing procedure - i could go out now and fit a cone and feel the change, can i feel how its benefit'd me overall? - the answer is no, i have no doubt i will feel a change but to what degree and to what cost...you simply cannot tell and vagcom is only half the picture

Received and fitted my Pipercross panel filter today.. My first thoughts on the new filter, a nice distinctive noise when flooring, and the boost seems better. All in all a noticable difference so i am happy with the choice..

Thanks all for advice and opinions!!

I fitted a "green cotton" panel filter to my S3 last week, IMO its made quite a difference to the car, car is a lot more responsive on the throttle, and a lot more induction noise.
Also with the stock paper filter I never realy heard the forge DV dump any air but now I hear it when ever I change gear.

I didnt think it would make so much difference but I was pleasently surprised.

    Holy thread revival batman

Old thread but I use a JR cone filter, sounds great and definitely gives a little extra power especially if it’s mated to a Badger 5 TIP
