My car is now four and a half years old and well out of warranty as far as paint is concerned.
However, I started noticing little bumps and bubbles in the paint work along the sides and on the tail gate. They look very similar to the pictures I've seen of the gutters.
Went up to the local stealer and was basically told that this would cost me about £1500 as the car is out of warranty. "****** that" I said, "I'll be phone up the paint companies to tell them you're claiming that contamination on the surface prior to painting is their fault?"
Finally they agreed to let their paint specialist look at it, meantime I got three paint inspectors from work to give their view. Osmotic Blistering is the technical term for it. It's caused by tiny specs of water (even breathing) on the surface breaking the galvinising down.
Audi called me up last week to say there was an independant guy coming to look at it. So, I went back up to the local stealers full of new knowledge to impress the guy, and guess what? He completely disagreed with Audi's original verdict! They called me today to get the back and both sides repainted at their expense! Total score!
