Last weekend I fitted a new turbo to the girlfriends car as it was burning oil and had catalyst efficiency errors. The cat was also not working correctly probably due to drinking oil for months so I fitted a used O34 HFC with a lambda spacer at the same time.

The car is running much better now but the CEL came back on with the error,
008598 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1
P2196 - 002 - Signal too High (Rich)

Is this likely to be to do with the lambda spacer? I’d have expected another catalyst efficiency code or similar rather than a rich code from the upstream sensor.

I presume the fix would be a stage 2 map but could I get away with stage 2 with a standard exhaust other than the bigger cat?
