Everyone says they had the RS200 block in their car, they mostly ********.

There were very few RS200's made and they are as rare as rocking horse ****, so having the engine from one in your escort cosworth is about as likely as NASA landing on the sun.

Why would you take the engine out of your new escort cosworth and replace it exactly? did it blow up? now that would be unusual.

The engine in my sapphire was the engine that came with the car, I did however have an RS500 block sitting in my garden that I was going to fit into it, but never bothered. Sold it to a friend of mine. I did however make an alloy water/air intercooler to fit into the car to keep the charge air temperature down, that was a good addition.

All 4 by 4 cosworth cars had 200 block based engines as standard fit the two wheel drive versions didnt bar the RS500.

So what you are saying is that my 4 by 4 saff didnt have a 200 block as standard ?

I think you are getting confused a 200 block doesnt come from an RS200 as you claim all 4wd drive cars had the strengthened block designated and stamped with the marking 200 all rear wheel drive variants bar the RS500 had the 205 block which was not as strong as the the 200.

So judging by your first comment it seems its not everyone else bullsh1tting maybe its you ? And it would appear that NASA could well be landing on the sun given the fact that you are a self proclaimed Ford Trained Cosworth Expert :lmfao:

The YB series

The YB series of engines are based on the older Pinto engine block and were introduced in the road-going Ford Sierra Cosworth in 1986 with 204 bhp. It was the first road going engine that developed more than 100 bhp per litre, with 5,000 units built for homologation purposes in Group A, both for rallies and touring cars. Racing versions could develop about 400 bhp. A limited edition evolution model was introduced in 1987, the RS500, with power now exceeding 550 bhp in full racing trim. Today there are many road going YB engines developing over 750 bhp and there are several rallycross Sierra Cosworths utilising YB engines tuned to over 900 bhp.
Further evolutions of the YB included a reduced-emissions road version, as well as the block used in the Escort Cosworth (which used the Sierra floorpan). The engine stopped being used on new cars in 1997, with the Focus WRC and road-going Focus RS relying on Zetec designs.

Underrated

The cosworth Rs500 block

you really a complete numpty mate the RS500 has an engine based on a 200 block the strengthened Cosworth block that was adopted and used at a later date for all 4 wheel drive cars but first featured on the RS500 . You claim it comes from an RS200 car in your earlier post :lmfao: Even the link you posted makes refernece to the RS500's thick walled block THIS IS KNOWN AND MARKED AS A 200 BLOCK NOT AN RS500 BLOCK

There is no such thing as an RS500 block there is of course such a thing as an RS500 car WHICH HAD A 200 SERIES THICK WALL BLOCK IN IT

you really are a complete fool

THE YB COSWORTH ENGINE

1993 cubic centimetres in capacity, derived from the SOHC Pinto which with modifications can run an easy 190bhp on it's own, without the use of a turbo. So the pinto was a good basis for a performance engine. Cosworth started work and manufactured a 16 valve DOHC head; they then bolted this to a 2 litre pinto block with reinforcements, such as heavier casting stronger bores and different oil way drillings. With a lower compression ratio off 8.0:1. Early blocks are marked 205 on the side, later ones 200 but these were only fitted to the 4x4 not the 2wd. With the use of a Weber fuel injection system and Garrett T3 turbo charger, this engine was producing upwards in the region of 300bhp. Ok for racing but far to lively for the company car drivers of the mid 80s. So with some serious down tuning they got it to produce 203bhp & 205lbf of torque. This was coupled with a T5 mustang gearbox and fitted to the sierra. Which lead to a car which today is still sought after.

Why are you posting links to pictures of RS500's ? what have they got to do with your idiotic claims ? of bullshitting and Nasa

I am going to give up too.

Its not an RS 200 block its not an RS500 its just a nice and simple 200 or 205 block.

In the meantime I look forward to NASA announcing they have landed onthe sun

F**kin no i dont this is taken from cosworth history page on the net...you better tell them they are wrong as well

After the RS500 there was an empty slot in the Ford motorsport department. They needed a new car to keep up with the Lancia Delta HF Integrale and the Audi Quattro. This lead to the development of the 4-door Sierra RS Cosworth 4wd. It looked very similar to the Saphire 2wd, but underneath the body the changes very many. It had Ferguson 4 wheel drive system with two viscous couplers; one on the center diff, the other on the rear diff. Torque split was 34% to the front and 66% to the rear wheels. The engine was improved, having changed 80% of the parts compared to the Saphire Cosworth. The changes included new modified RS500 block, stronger head and stronger pistons with new gudgeon pin placement to decrease piston slap. A new Garrett T03 turbo, new intake manifold and bigger intercooler was also installed. This lead to a powerincrease of only 224hp, but much more was available when tuning the engine. But none the less; it still did not fulfill Ford's expectations. It did not score a single group A win in it's two years of rallying. The reason the Sierra Saphire didn't produce any decent results was probably due to it's weight and size. Ford simply needed a smaller car. The suitable model for the time was the Escort.

I have now come to the conculision you are a wind up merchant or you have lost the abilty to intake information

Have a nice day

Lol You are absolutley right the RS500 engine did have its own specific thickwall block at the time designed for motorsport and homologation purposes.

The code number for the RS500 block was 200 (call it a part number if you like) and became known at a later date as a 200 block. Some years later Ford saw fit to replace the standard block designated 205 as fitted to the original 3door sierra and RWD saff with the 200 block for all 4WD drive cosworth vehicles.

It really is quite simple nothing to do with Nasa , RS200's, dodgy wiring looms or ******** just the part number 200

YBD is Rs500.

Absolutley correct

Ford needed an engine desperately to regain it's credibility on the racetrack, and when they just happened to drop in at Cosworth, they spied an equipped engine. It was suggested that they took the YAA and fitted a turbo. Hence the Sierra Cosworth was born in 1986, with 204 bhp. This engine was built from selected Sierra injection blocks and, therefore had the same cast-in markings. They made 5500 of these, now called YBB engines, 500 of which were sneaked off for another project. These were to become RS500's, from which the Touring Cars were produced. These cars had engines now producing 225 bhp, (bigger turbo, more injectors) labeled YBD, that was in 1987. To produce these machines, the engines were whipped out and replaced with a thicker walled Motorsport block (distinguished by 1 in. as opposed to 2.25 in. core plugs) These engines are distinguished by green rocker covers, the larger core plugs and "200" was cast into these blocks.

I am still waiting to hear of confirmation that NASA have landed on the sun A4Quattro. :lmfao:

Sorry, what was this thread about?!?!?!?!

LOL @ the Ford haters and marque elititists :lmfao:

Well, I have a 300bhp Audi S4, but my mate's loopy Escort Cosworth makes me want to mess myself and throw the Audi in the bin.

IMO (and experience), Escort Cosworths are awesome. They are really only an Escort by name.

As for modern hatches stomping all over them,......well against a standard one in the dry yes possibly. But, the Cosworth has absolutely HUUUUUUUUGE potential, the sort that most hot hatches could only dream of.

Some of you may recognise the car ;).......................

well lets get back on topic then

Footballers - it's not rocket science now is it

This one might cause some controversy but here goes - Princess Diana - yes it was tragic but it's been a very long time now, can't we respect her memory enough to stop bringing this storey up in the news again and again!

Also - Sorry but I can't agree with whoever said golf was overrated :nunu: - i love the game to bits although some of the people who play it are complete w@nkers

underrated :

Danni minogue - definitely - she’s a babe, grrr :p

VW corrados - really good looking car IMO, just looks purposeful

Golf is overrated as a sport, because it isn't a sport, it's a pastime, like darts or snooker, plain & simple.
A sport requires that some level of physical fitness will determine the outcome, not just skill.
Also playing against yourself is tantamount to w@nking so no real surprise it's full of w@nkers really.
