After modding our A6 visually i decided i wanted more power and torque but who to go to?

A friend who works for Audi recommended to me a company called, more-BHP in Crewe, Cheshire. I had never heard of them but as he and two more Audi people have used them and they are fairly local for me i decided to go for it.

First they ran a diagnostic on the car to make sure all was ok before the run and then began. The first run on the rolling road was at standard at 186.3 BHP and 323 NM of torque and after the remap was done and all set up the final figure was 225.7 BHP and 486 NM of torque. The car now feels more responsive for such a big car. Their rolling road is for both two and four wheel drive, it is a Bapro and the biggest one i have seen.
More BHP 012
More BHP 044
More BHP 029
More BHP 028
More BHP 046
More BHP 047

They are based at Units 6 and 7 Atech Court, off Lancaster Fields. Their website is www.more-bhp.com.

Were you not worried about voiding the warranty with a remap?

Think you have quoted the wrong torque figure for the engine before the map.
"standard at 186.3 BHP and 323 NM of torque and after the remap was done and all set up the final figure was 225.7 BHP and 486 NM"
I presume it's a 190 bhp model and these make something like 400Nm standard. If it was 400Nm and increased to 486Nm that would tie up with the 20% increase in power .
Be interesting to see if the map gets picked up at the dealers and you get a TD1.

And if he decided to jump off a cliff would you follow him ? . Not necessarily the best idea if you are going to have the car serviced at a main dealer and you encounter an issue with it that is in any way related to the powertrain, you may find that the warranty is void.
If that isn't an issue for you then don't worry about it.
Looking at the site.

Q. My vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty will it be affected?
A. It is difficult to tell if your ECU has been tuned so a Dealer will only know if you tell them. So your warranty should remain unaffected.

That is a complete load of rubbish .

Yes it is the 190 PS model not BHP which is 187.401 BHP so slightly lower before remap.

I quoted what is on the print out.

Remap 001
Remap 002

What's your problem?

I have no problem.
Just trying to highlight to people who read this that there are potential issues . Aside from the fact that the figures quoted are obviously incorrect some of the information on the website is also very incorrect.
This shows a typical generic map improvements for that engine
http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/VAG2.0TDI190PS.pdf
The after figures are in line with what you have, you can see that the standard engine has around 400Nm so the quoted before figure of 323Nm appears low.

That is bad of more bhp .

At least Revo is realistic .

i had a superchips remap on my old car and the dealer said they couldn't detect it

  • Can it be detected?
Remapping does not involve a physical re-chip as with older vehicles and it will not be apparent on first-glance that your car is remapped. Infact, unless there appears to be a problem when a diagnostic scan is run, or on the first test drive, we don't even need to open the bonnet. However, there are many tuning companies online who state that their remaps are "undetectable" and this simply isn't true. While it may not be physically apparent it is relatively easy to find out by comparing the contents of the ECU with a standard one, by verifying the checksum (a value calculated against the contents of the ECU), and by taking the vehicle for a test drive and taking some logs of the data provided by the ECU. Remapping is NOT undetectable, and don't let anyone tell you different.

The mechanics at a dealership would only have to take your car for a drive to know it wasn't standard. They drive so many of these cars it's usually easy to tell when a car has been mapped.

maybe... interesting with the bluefin as you can take it off before it goes to the dealer - but i guess they could still detect it from the logs in the car

It's a case if they're looking hard enough they'll find it !

Hopefully the OP doesn't have any mechanical issues because he has waved goodbye to his warranty through the BS of a remapping company .

What BS, i knew what i was letting myself in for when i walked in with my eyes open thank you very much. And it's not mechanical anymore it's technical, that's why they now call them technicians and not mechanics, lol.

Just because you've modified the engine doesn't necessarily mean goodbye warranty

I know several people who have had new cars mapped (by large companies!), have had issues and still the manufacturers have paid out

It has to be proven that the remap has caused the issue. What a remap often does is find a weakness that was already present

It has to be a fairly shoddy remap to put a hole in the side of the block or blow your turbo!! That's why the engine has various sensors to help protect itself from such idiots lol

As long as you were aware of the implications before getting your new car remapped then that's your call and your business.

While some posts might not have read that way everyone essentially had your best interests at heart making sure you were aware and that a company hadn't pulled a fast one on you.

Enjoy your new Audi and the extra power.

If you have any mod to the engine then engine, drivetrain, dpf and suspension wont be covered by Audi warranty and its out of the dealers control or ability to negotiate as the car connects direct to Audi in Germany and automatically calls a TD1. After that warranty on the above components is a bye bye wether caused by the mid or not. Thats a fact.

Does it affect your insurance ?

That depends on you and the insurance company you use. Using a company who specialise in insuring modified cars can often work out at the same or in some cases cheaper than using one of the more mainstream companies :)

Equally be aware that not all insurance companies will insure modified cars. You may want to check with your current insurer if they do and any changes to your premium that may incur. You may have to wait until your insurance is due for renewal before making any modifications so you can then go with a company who will cover you :)

Does it affect your insurance ?

A lot of insurers just won't insure any modification, there are however a good bunch of insurers that you won't find on comparison sites that will cover some modding and then a hand full that will cover alot of modding (such as Adrian Flux which I've used in the past). If you like to use your comparison sites then put your car details in but test the water before making the jump by select modifications such as Engine Chip (0-10%) and then Engine Chip (10-20%) etc and see what results comes back. Then you know what options you have before making the plunge.

I've been quite happy with Admiral (who are only 1 of 3 companies that show up now on comparison sites for me) for the last 4 years on my tuned cars, they keep sending me ridiculous renewals each year (which is an automated estimate) but then you phone them and ask them what the best they can actually do and they cover you for much less than I've got quoted else where each time.

Also when I check with them each year on how much it would cost without the mapping it's always between £10-£20 less which I don't think is bad (was only £25 when I had both of my old cars tuned on a multicar policy). So it's not the end if you go down the tuning route but just expect less insurance options (so your not going to find those ridiculously cheap policies that seem to greatly undercut everyone and I'm not sure I would trust come payout time) and usually slightly more costs (but in my experience it's very little).

Can anyone tell me where I can source the boot lid spoiler shown on the red audi a6 above?

it's a genuine s6 one i think
