I've just been told i need a new Gearbox for my 1.8T, i've had a quote of £411 for a used one (not sure on the milage) but also been told its best to replace the clutch as well? Is this correct and any ideas of the cheapest place to go?
Find yourself a gearbox(try ebay), this should be around £300, I got an S3 gearbox for £300, try and source your own clutch at trade price from you local motor factor and just pay the labout to get it all fitted. Labour for mine was £225 cash, but it's a Quattro, so yours should be cheaper.
Thanks, with regards to the clutch do i need all the parts i.e the slave cylinder, master cylinder, cable or is the clutch kit enough? sorry i know nothing about clutches. I've seen one from GSF for £105
If you are changing it because the gear box is coming off anyways, then I'd go for the clutch mate, that's what I bought for my S3 along with a new release bearing, and all is good now.
