Options for adding handsfree / streaming music

Hi guys

I've picked up a nice little B7 Avant that has Nav Plus but doesn't have handsfree. I also miss being able to play music from my iPhone - ideally wirelessly.

- What are my options for handfree? Ideally I want a system that fully integrates with the Nav Plus system / display / controls etc - what is involved to retrofit the OEM bluetooth module 8P0862335C? Or am I better off with an aftermarket solution (if so, why?)

- What wireless music streaming options do I have? Is there an OEM / aftermarket option that does both?!

(Also looking to upgrade the speakers in the future, but that's for another day!)

Welcome! I had similar requirements, having the RNS-E all it took was a single wire from ebay, pull the radio out and then get someone with VAG-COM to add the AUX option (Make sure your RNS is on latest firmware). I took the glovebox out to route the wire into the glovebox, but likely not required.

Here's the wire i got:

Literally just plug and play into the back of the radio/nav, the only akward bit is to get it re-coded. Once it is though, you'll have a lovely Aux option in your navs media menu. To get it wireless i then just bought one of these and plugged the aux into it for Bluetooth:

AUKEY Bluetooth Receiver, Audio Music Adapter with Hands-free Calling for Home Audio System and Mobile Audio Devices (BR-C1, Black)

Search that on Amazon UK, the forums removing the link for some reason

Works beautifully!

With that setup can I make/receive calls using the headunit with my iPhone still in my pocket? Or does it require the phones mic? Did you just tuck the AUKEY box in the glovebox & forget about it? I assume the firmware update is done via VAG-COM?

I'm not sure! My spec did not include the phone calling, call voice of course comes through the stereo and the bluetooth adaptor i mentioned above has an inbuilt microphone. Mine sits in the glovebox so i just open up the glovebox so it can hear my voice and hands free like that. I very rarely make calls and set up everything primarily for music! The firmware update is in fact done with the Sat Nav disks, as long as you get a 2008 or onward disk, pop it in the disk slot behind the screen and wait for it to update. You'll then be able to program the Aux option with the VAG-COM whenever you like. Without that latest firmware it won't work.

I had a general one that connects to back of stereo , wire it through into the glovebox , leave unit there and run the mic cable in the headliner if you want it hidden.
I just had mic clipped to air vents.

Worked pretty well. Mic isn't the loudest of clearest for callers but you hear calls fine.
Obviously no info of track playing on stereo - but then your phone displays that better .

Yes I do! No issue as far as I remember! You could always pull out the radio and double check the 'plug socket' for the aux adapter is free before you bought it if you're concerned. There's no problem re. Software or anything, at least there wasn't for me!

Oh my word, that brings back bad memories... Getting the RNS-E out was the bane of 3 days of my life haha. For many, if not most it works first time, but the inner clips are like fine bone china. I bought 2 sets of keys from 2 different suppliers, visited two Audi specialists in the hope i was doing something wrong and they could help me, phoned Audi themselves to ask and or book an appointment to get the damn thing out. Eventually i figured out i could take out the whole glovebox (very easy, just awkward on your own to hold it up and such) put the keys into the radio and PUSH it out from the back at the same time now the glove-box is out the way. Ever since I've left the radio ever so slightly out of the slot so i never have to go through it again...

I used this i believe! very easy to get to everything, like i said, just awkward to get it back in on your own as you've gotta hold it just right and bolt at the same time!

Sorry to hijack the thread but I can't seem to get an answer anywhere. I'm trying to fit the aux add on to my concert stereo without the cd changer. Will this fit in the back of my stereo?

Supposed to fit in the cd changer port but I have no idea where that is or if it even exists on the back of my stereo.

Again, really sorry to hijack the thread but I can't deal with using those dodgy FM transmitters to play music from my phone anymore .

You'll likely need to get something like a "Denison" that mimics a cd changer to get any aux capability on your setup. Will feel less OEM though.

Thank's for the reply. Might just go for a complete aftermarket stero if I can't get an aux install. The one in the link I supplied has a different socket though. I need to do some research!

Sorry yeah, i completely blanked on that link apparently. didn't see it! Those boxes are the way I've seen most people go. Connect 2 and Denison
